Then pimps and crack/meth hoes can go build solar panels.

It is legal in some places in Nevada, rules for you but not for me is par the course, outside of that two consenting grown adults as long as they are not married.

Drugs, prostitution and other Vice pump billions into the economy they do not really want them to go away.

I know a couple of high end ones that make at least $25k a month working a couple of day a week, they would not make that packing boxes at Amazon.

Estimated 1-2 million in the United States generating $14 billion a year, not counting the crack heads and meth heads that generate billions more for the drug trade.

Thats 1-2 million more you would have to find jobs for and who knows what the law enforcement losses would be if they are not able to collect ticket money, fed money for sticking em in jail, fines levied, court costs, lawyers fees etc etc

As we seem to be constantly reminded 1/2 the politicians are banging them anyways,so they should really be a protected class of people.

It’s a part of the mobs income, keep kicking the organized aspect out and we get what we see, unorganized anarchy.

Sometimes it is more profitable for cities and feds to keep something illegal then it is to make it legal, job security for a lot in LEO.

I vaguely recall it was effectively decriminalized in Washtenaw County.

    Yeah. Here: Sex Work Policy.

That was a while ago. Haven't heard much about it since.

To me, it just seems like low hanging fruit. They cite the guy, tow his car and get in his wallet for a couple grand. Basically, that's the end of the story. Then it's on to the next guy, or the next john. Not that you would want prostitutes flashing their assets on every corner.

Police commissioner cited for lewd conduct in Detroit
Deputies saw a man in a truck with a woman’s head in his lap. As they stopped, the department says the woman popped up, wiped off her face, and exited the truck. The man, according to WCSO, identified himself as Detroit Police Commissioner Bryan Ferguson and asked a deputy if he could help him out.

He's saying it was a "misunderstanding" and she jumped in his truck and started molesting him. What did she do, unzip his pants and latch on like a nursing baby?

    This really sucks for him…

His version of the incident really blows.

Give him a break, he was just trying to get ahead.

Is it ironic that the commission created to provide oversight to the DPD itself needs oversight?

The commission was created in 1974 and, since then, the DPD had been under a federal consent decree for 13 years. Not because of the commission, but because of multiple civil rights lawsuits from the federal government.

So, what's the point of the commission? They seem to do whatever the DPD wants.

So you sit down with your teenaged daughter and say you'll support her if she chooses a career in prositoution and maybe even get a small bed in the garage for her to use for local customers.

I think there are some valid reasons to consider legalizing prostitution, although I'm not currently in favor of it.

As a Detroiter, by issue isn't with the crime itself...whatever. It's with the fact that he tried to use his position as a commissioner for personal benefit, and now he's concocted a ridiculous lie to cover it.

What do you want to bet that he also used the "I'm a police commissioner" to get her in his car to begin with? I bet she thought she'd get arrested or something if she didn't comply.

Now it's being reported on WWJ that he will resign after all.

    No surprise there.

AFAIK research shows that child abuse or molestation is highly correlated with certain career choices [if you want to call it choice] -- so, the daddy you're talking about is probably waiting in line for his next turn.

OTOH science still doesn't know why certain types go into politics, cults, etc.

Police commissioners react to fellow member's resignation
    after lewd act in Detroit
After being cited by undercover sheriff’s deputies for a lewd act and having his truck towed, Detroit Police Commissioner Bryan Ferguson resigned from the board Thursday night.
    That was a quick scandal.

    Legalizing is a disaster.

Not that there isn't prostitution now, but at least its not visible to our children mostly, isn't n the malls and such. Being illegal keeps it mostly out of sight, and we can pretend we live ina somewhat moral society.

Was he related to Bobby Ferguson?

    Maybe.
Or you just put them in sanctioned red light houses/areas like Europe and most of the world does.

Who's the City of Detroit nightlife person, lol? They can be in charge of the effort. Let Mike Duggan be the pimp.

The Police have bigger fish to fry in Detroit's crime.

Right. Glad the arresting officers didn't fall for the Christine Beatty "Do you know who I am" line.

Well, that is the intelligent thing to do, and we had that here. but it was deemed something-ist decades ago, and done away with during mayor Youngs admin.

I've been calling for a return of that for years. Third Ave was still a little bit that way 20 years ago

Yeah, it was on Third Ave., and the Cass Corridor south of WSU.

AFAIK that's where they got the name Midtown, 'cuz the hookers were mid-to low-priced, unlike those fancy escorts farther north.
