Default Belle Isle Park Multimodal Mobility Study

Belle Isle Park Multimodal Mobility Study [[michigan.gov)\

Join us at the July 8 public open house

As part of the study, a team of engineers, planners and landscape architects have been looking at sustainable options to improve traffic flow, parking and movement around the island. They have developed several major proposed recommendations for improving park mobility, including:

    • Converting the road around the island to a two-way street.
    • Installing protected bike lanes on the MacArthur Bridge, which provides main access between the city of Detroit’s mainland and Belle Isle.
    • Creating a promenade for walkers and bikers down the center of Central Avenue.
    • Improving signage around the island to help visitors know where to go and how to get there.
    • Offering alternative mobility options, such as a ferry or improved public transportation, to and from the park.

Anyone interested in reviewing these proposed solutions and providing feedback is encouraged to attend the public open house 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, 100 The Strand, on Belle Isle, Detroit.

Vote no to two way street. It's a leisurely drive.

Bridge is a protected walkway, convert one side to bike only.

    Promenade is a cool idea.

Ferry and Buses and old idea revived.

Let the controversy begin, see you at the Dawson museum.

I like it all except the two way road idea. As for the bridge, I think there is already too much bicycle traffic to share lanes with vehicles or those on foot. I would support removing one traffic lane in favor of a protected two way bike lane.

You guys are not being very inclusive, what if the place wants to identify as a theme park ?

Come over the bridge and park,no cars allowed after that point, you can bike, you can take the golf cart shuttle to select points, you can ride the little electric bicycles, you can take the ferry, you can walk, run or jog or crawl to anywhere within the park, you just cannot drive.
