Default A question for someone who knows UAW negotiating history

In what year did the UAW first negotiate paid holidays for Big Three auto workers?

Thinking about my dad's life working in an auto plant, it dawned on me that once upon a time Christmas, New Years Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, etc., must have been regular workdays; and, if a worker took one of those days off, it would be without pay.

Ford did the 40 hour work week in 1914.

The fair labor act was established in 1938 after workers in flint staged a strike in 1937.

You father sounds more like he was self employed, because that’s how it works.

Why would people expect a paid day off? That’s probably what led to those expecting 365 paid days off.

What is interesting is during WW2 worker’s shut down war production with strikes, during what was considered a world wide emergency and were allowed a negotiating platform.

Nowadays a trucker strike involves the stripping of their rights and bank accounts and those actions were approved and supported by the same state that was involved with a wartime strike where the union was allowed to negotiate.

As usual, Richard doesn't answer the question, adds nothing of substance, and diverts the topic.

The UAW negotiated paid holidays for autoworkers in 1947, one company at a time. I believe the idea was adopted from other industries that already had the benefit.

Take 3 seconds and enter the question into a search and the answer pops up.

You are thinking sense the first union was formed on 1886 they never thought about negotiating for paid holidays until 1947?

Granted the question was not when did the union first negotiate for paid holidays successfully.
