Default Norwegian hydrogen company plans $400M, 500-job factory in Michigan

Michigan needs a few more economic wins like this.

Norwegian hydrogen company Nel will establish a $400 million manufacturing plant in Michigan, creating an estimated 500-plus jobs at what officials said will be the first U.S. facility to make alkaline electrolyzer equipment used to produce renewable hydrogen.Nel Hydrogen, a subsidiary of Oslo-based Nel ASA and a collaborator with General Motors Co., is still evaluating where in the state to put the factory.

The project was announced Wednesday by Nel CEO Håkon Volldal, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, and state and local economic development officials attending the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Maryland.
"The choice of Michigan is based on an overall assessment of what the state can offer in terms of financial incentives, access to a highly skilled workforce, and cooperation with universities, research institutions and strategic partners," Volidal said in a statement in which he also highlighted "personal engagement from the governor and her team."

Another factor was the proximity to GM, which is headquartered in Detroit.

The announcement came months after Whitmer met with Nel executives during a trade mission to Norway and Switzerland. She said she was "thrilled" to land the plant over other states, boosting efforts to grow Michigan's car, microchip and clean energy industries.

Interesting how hydrogen is ramping up,the Koreans are building on in Florida, breaking ground on June 6th,so if the one in Michigan is manufacturing the equipment I wonder where the Korean s are getting theirs ?

A South Korean company plans to build clean-hydrogen facility in Polk County using natural gas from a nearby pipeline.
During his visit to South Korea on Wednesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a memorandum of understanding with LowCarbon Hydrogen Corp. to create a research hub for clean hydrogen technology in Mulberry.

So it looks like the infrastructure is being put in place to use hydrogen as an alternative to EVs ?

Who would have thought that a current auto manufacturer that is investing billions in EV technology along with billions in incentives would support any other option.

Who decided our future is only going to be EVs with no other options,we are paying for it how come we are being deprived of any other opportunities or options?

It’s like ICE is the street cars of the past and EVs are the busses of the future, who benefits the most from only going with planet destroying EVs?

Why is it foreign money investing in our future but not Americans?

Future use for the Packard Plant site? The proximity to "Factory Zero" seems like it would be a good thing.
