We love our Toys. They make great used cars with affordable maintenance as it goes. We've never purchased them new so well beyond the criticism of not buying American. Heck! The last one was made in Kentucky! All of ours have gone over 250,000K comfortably and expectedly. No car's perfect, but the quality/ durability factor of Toyota's up thru 2010 has been awesome, IMO.

I don't do European cars [BMWs, Mercedes]. Sure, they can be great for the first 70K or so - the road handling is great. But as they age they become VERY steep money pits. I'll let the rich [smile] have 'em as they either can afford the hefty repairs as they age, or they ditch them onto the used car market. And some go for really cheap used. Until 'you' own them - and start the repair cycle......

    Lol…
about said slur, I didn’t know about that, however, I know that the family name is Toyoda…

Yes, I love my 2011 V6 Rav4 with Run flat tires which means that the wheelcase was disappeared on the backdoor which is nice. Mine was built in Ontario, so, added bonus there, too.

One of my boys has a Plug-in Prius, the other an old Infiniti where he pulled out the letters to leave FINI which means finished in French. He just had delivered a Toyota Chaser as a hobby car from Japan a month ago. He’ll be fiddling on it in the new garage I had built during COVID. His vanity plate is a wordplay that can't be shared in polite company. Oh well, what can I do?

^ In another life I did own a Ford Escort! Incredibly it went over 180,000K.

Never owned a Ford but did sit in a zippy yellow Focus ST at the Montreal Auto Show years ago and I found it temping, but I couldn’t have carried my tools in it.

The same applies for used domestic trucks. I priced a 2014 Silverado with 155,000 miles and they wanted almost 30 grand for it. I thought a used one would be a better deal. It was pretty clean, no rust but that is way too much in my opinion. I might as well wait on a newer one, but I'm afraid they'll be higher. Maybe it's just me but, I think these Stealerships are just capitalizing on this chip shortage and are price gouging the consumer.

There were recent stories about manufacturers agreeing with that observation and they are not happy. They were threatening dealers with sanctions if they persisted.

IMHO the 'handing over' is completely finished. Rather than 'continued' or 'increasing', it's a fait accompli.

Here's a most salient comment from RGA, a Canadian citizen working in Hong Kong: Critical of China - RGA - Inmate Central [[audioasylum.com)

The tide never will turn back unless Chinese leadership becomes as stupid as U.S. leadership, which is improbable.

George H.W. Bush said it doesn't matter if we make potato chips or computer chips. Bill Clinton said we're all going to be knowledge workers, which is a joke in an increasingly ignorant nation. Dubya said 'Mission Accomplished" at the start of a twenty-year lost war, etc.

In fact, handing its head to China on a silver platter is the only thing that was accomplished completely and with finesse. Now that's self-Salomation!

If it was that clean, you could of bought it for the $3k and sent it south and had no problem getting up to $10k,it is tough for the average buyer to find a decent car or truck for $3000 anymore.

The dealership call me and offered $15k over what I paid for my 2019 F250 4x4 SD,so i would have got paid to use the truck for 2 years while putting 60,000 miles on it,or free use of the truck.

But they did not have a new one to sell to replace it.

It is no different then real estate,a house lists for $300k and you tell the realtor, okay where do I sign, they tell you,I have a northern buyer offering $400k cash, that is 100k over listing.

If somebody is selling something for $20 and somebody says I will give you $50 are you going to say no as a kind person?

Its supply and demand, they would not be able to do it if there were not people willing to pay it.

You could have the government produce vehicles at a fixed cost, but a Russian government built car is based on a 1986 design that has not changed in 30 years,it is brand new, built exactly like it was in 86.

Just like in real estate, people are sitting on the fence,so what happens when the chip shortage clears up and all that pent up demand kicks in,are you really going to wait 3-4 years in order to save $10k over MSRP of you really want a new vehicle,on paper financed over 8 years,it is only $25 a month extra,if that ,insignificant to most.

Most that I know that bought new cars, did not really need to sell there 3-5 year old car and buy a new one, they wanted to at anyprice.

The interesting part in all of that,if you are not looking to buy a new car built by the big 2.5,you can buy every other make at dealer cost,no negotiations sticker is sticker but no charging $10k just for the privilege.

But the car situation is no different then anything in the last year, prices are up over 400% on some items,so adding another $10,000 to the purchase price of a new car is no different then adding $150 to the cost of buying a box of bananas.

3K for a 2014 is pretty low per what vehicles are going for now. A Toyota truck 2014 could go for 10K handily; high miles too [considering that for most Toyota's 155K are just broken-in if well maintained w/ a recent timing belt or chain].

Toyota Camry's old as 2005 are going for 4K fast! Especially at the 'Stealerships' who are really going nutso price-wise. Check the model you buy I say. Stick with the long-runners if you're going used. Alot of problematic cars are out there being sold by dealers and private seller. It's indeed a sellers market now!

It was a typo on my post. I meant to say 30 grand, not 3

I've never paid MSRP for a vehicle in my life. I think I'll keep my powder dry for a while.

New or Used car dealerships, one way or another, their aim is to get you by the ball bearings.

Gotcha. Yeah that IS TOO MUCH. It's just nutso. Even purchasing from a private seller. And Carfax only shows accidents if they were reported. There's alot of junk circulating now - including the underwater vehicles.
