Probably just waiting for things to cool down so she can take a bribe to pay it off.
I don't know if she's related to Oprah. If she is perhaps Oprah could take care of that for her. If she's not maybe she can convince Oprah that they are related. I'm sure it won't be the first time Oprah's been hit up for money by people claiming to be her kin.
I will still vote for Janice Winfrey because the election paperwork
has so far arrived in a timely manner despite those USPS
troubles overseen by Louis DeJoy. She is old school enough to
keep paper copies, which makes it harder to rig an election.
She did not resign in the face of threats after the 2020
presidential elections.
City of Detroit ballot bookkeeping problems occurred AFTER
budget cuts were imposed on the elections department, right
before the City of Detroit bankruptcy, and after Snyder was
elected as governor. The elections staffing shifted from being
full time with benefits to temporary staffing. This looks all right
from the budget cut perspective but if that temporary staff is not
keeping exact track of ballots and ballot boxes and so forth, that
would be expected under those circumstances. Winfrey's
election outreach such as billboards was much more extensive
prior to budget cuts to that department.
The social media pile-on from Winfrey opponent Garlin Gilchrist
about such problems with the City of Detroit Elections Department
was nearly enough to win him that position and may have helped
boost him to the Lieutenant-Governorship.
Still, partly since the ballots are still paper, elections should be
relatively fair so long as that is the case.

Election outreach has reached my semi private cell via text.
Republicans have thoroughly bested Janice Winfrey in this
effort. These texts have tapered off since the flurry after
the presidential election which coincided with the threats
Winfrey endured.
A wrong person thought to be an avid Trump supporter at
my cell phone number has frequently been requested to send,
for example, funds for Marjorie Taylor Greene for the purpose
of impeaching Biden. There has been more, such as messages
from Sen. Ted Cruz, and also Trump related messages. These
were not saved but they probably mentioned that Trump belief
that he was fighting a rigged election result.
Most recently this individual has been asked to support Council
Member Janee Ayers in the upcoming election...hunh! This timing
is WAY OFF as she is being investigated by the FBI for corruption
that has led to two City Council members to have resigned already.
I do not understand why a Trump/Greene/Cruz Republican
Party donor would be asked to back a City Council member
in a Democratic city ONLY AFTER some appearance of corruption
has come up. Someone help me understand here.

Makes me glad I no longer live in Detroit, or even Michigan.
The sun and sky are awesome in Las Vegas!
I love to see plenty of the color green in the landscape
though, and all of the clouds and misty air are kinder to
my complexion.
So I am a better fit to stay in Michigan if possible, though it
certainly has its share of problems as any place does.
The other day there was a gathering in Rouge Park that had
at least two dozen votive candles burning on the ground and
at least that many white balloons being held in their hands,
ready to be released once prayers were concluded. I'm
guessing this was a COVID-19 memorial service though there
are other possibilities.
Thank you for your years of service and your interesting
posts and historical pics on Detroit Yes!
^ not for nothing but I would hope the balloons were not released into the air as they are dangerous to wildlife and the habitat and do not decompose once they fall back to earth.
You are right but probably the balloons were released to float
peacefully away to heaven. The flying candles are the ones
that worry me what with the ancient wooden housing stock
around here.
But they are peaceful - they are little shrines in the sky that stay
just long enough for a meditation and then they are gone.
We put so much toxic stuff in the environment unfortunately.
I have not followed up on this yet, but a researcher discovered,
after many had tried to understand the problem without success,
that a breakdown product from the preservative in tires is an
environmental culprit that is harming salmon. Since you have
an interest in turtles you might be interested in that item.
It is happening everywhere, you cannot hide.

When we were all in bed,
Old Mrs. Leary left the lantern in the shed
And when the cow kicked it over,
She winked her eye and said
It'll be a hot time, in the old town, tonight!
FIRE, FIRE, FIRE!
It’s the irony of it all,in order to save the trees, which have all burnt to the ground,we switched to a plastic fetish and destroyed the rest of the planet.
But EV cars will save it by creating more plastic.
When it comes to corruption it either mostly revolves around paid favors or just plain greed.
I do not think you will ever get rid of it,if a city is running along swimmingly and its residents are taken care of then it becomes a bit more palatable,in cases like Detroit, politicians stealing from the taxpayers deserve their own special place in hell.
+100, haha!
Only corruption and bad political design can explain how it's allowed to consume and gratuitously waste so much water in the middle of a vast area with a great shortage of it, and worse, how its population is allowed to rapidly increase even as the water shortage more rapidly grows.
So what if they filter their sewage to recycle and drink it? It's nowhere near enough.
Maybe its history could shed some insight, if history were objectively taught.

Nevada uses at most 2% of the Colorado River.
https://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/question/mead-shutdown/
99% of indoor water in Las Vegas is returned to Lake Mead.
http://www.reviewjournal.com/opinion...g-2450922/amp/
The Strip represents only 4% of southern Nevada's water use.
https://www.8newsnow.com/news/local-...rn-nevada/amp/
"The community used 23 billion gallons less water in 2020 than in 2002, despite a population increase of more than 780,000 residents during that time. This represents a 47 percent decline in the community’s per capita water use since 2002."
https://www.lvvwd.com/conservation/measures/index.html
OK, I checked. Objective sources not vested in Nevada's water use.
The Hoover Dam [which created Lake Mead] reduced the flow of water from the Colorado River to Mexico from 1,200 cubic meters per second to 164. The Colorado River used to form a river delta at the top of the Gulf of California [the body of water in Mexico that separates Baja California from the mainland] and fed it fresh water. American dams turned it into a desert.
Lake Mead supplies Las Vegas and nearby with water that would otherwise have flowed South. Nevada keeps the water for themselves.
Las Vegas is Spanish for "The Meadows". It has that name because it occupies what once was a valley of green meadows fed by springs from a natural aquifer. Las Vegas dried up that aquifer more than 50 years ago.
Who cares how much water Las Vegas returns to an artificial lake filled with diverted water they hoard for themselves to replace [at a great multiple] water they dried up long ago?
How much you must stretch to imagine Nevada uses only 2% of the Colorado River, even if measured after the dam. Your source is a content marketing site run by a career gambler.
Measuring only "indoor water" is an obvious attempt to distort facts. A vast amount evaporates from fountains, golf courses, and back yard pools. It matters. I'd bet water for air conditioning wasn't counted either. In the middle of a desert, under a hot sun.

Don't matter. We're working on an 1800 mile long pipeline to drop into Lake Michigan at the IL - IN border.
I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.
"Only corruption and bad political design can explain..."
That's gotten no better.
Honest politicians and Americans aligned with the best interests of the whole country and all Americans would fight that tooth and nail.

The Great Lakes alliance will never allow that fantasy and, even if they did, try, just try, to build any kind of pipeline anywhere. Fagitaboutit and invest in desalinization.
Vegas can dry up and blow away for all I care, but what does that have to do the the Detroit City Clerk not paying taxes?
Garnishee her wages, just like would happen for any other tax not payer.
Maybe she went to Vegas and blew all her money,we will never know because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
What the concern should be is because of the position she is in,would it be tempting to divert government funds to pay personal obligations.
Personally if it concerns federal, state and local obligations, that is three organizations that will know where every penny comes from that is repaid,so it becomes a non issue.
Like it says in the article, the only people that know the details are the taxpayer and agencies involved,if it does not directly concern the residents,it is a private matter.
I would not want Vegas to dry up and blow away, just as I would not want Detroit to be bulldozed under,we are all in this together in the bigger picture.

You sound proud at the idea of it. Anyone wanting Great Lakes water can move to, or back to, the Great Lakes states. Or buy the bottled water that Nestle basically gets to take for free.
And - sorry for drifting off topic.
