Watch this video about COVID-19 from Dr. Duc Vuoung, a Beriatic surgeon from Texas who wrote 13 books. He said that the US is following the Italian curve like other countries and the US is 2 weeks behind Italy and worse prepared because the US has only 2.8 beds per 1000 while Italy has 12-13 beds per thousand and Italy is turning anyone 80 or over away because they don't have enough beds. Italy's death rate is over 10%. He said don't believe the data coming from China such as most cases are 80 year old smokers.

He also said that before people show symptoms after catching it, they will transmit it to 2.5 victims.

He said it's not an old person's disease. People are getting younger and younger. If you're morbidly obese, you have a high risk for complications. 40% of Americans under 40 are morbidly obsese. 70% of fatalities from COVID-19 are morbidly obsese. People who are morbidly obsese do not have the lung reserves to handle COVID-19 and will die from pneumonia.

The US is at a death rate of 2% and it's going to increase like Italy because the US will not be able to handle the inflow of patients. He has a colleague in NYC who has 4 people hooked up to ventillators and they are in their 30s and the only risk factor they have is that they have a BMI of 30, ie. 40 lbs+ overweight. He said we're not going to peak until mid-May. 80% will have mild symptoms and the other 20% will have complications.

The only way we can keep it manageable is through self-isolation and social distancing. Italy already has a lockdown and the US is still letting everyone on public transportation. This will be a disaster.

Dr. Vuong explains what I just said in this half hour video:

I think we'll have to pretend everything's ok within 2-3 weeks regardless of the facts. Otherwise things won't be ok for sure.

You're posting that comment today? My comment is already outdated because Trump went along with the advice and announced social distancing needed until at least the end of April. Besides, it seems they are going to print as many trillions as they need so why worry about the economy?

Good thing public transportation is shut down in Windsor.

ONE DEATH and 92 cases of COVID-19 have now been recorded in Windsor-Essex. 1,134 people have been tested and 317 test results are pending. Testing in Canada takes up to a week to get results [[apparently we don't have the 5 minute test kits from Abbott Laboratories like the US) so the total cases with pending are probably around 127. Another article posted 2 days ago says that the doubling rate in Ontario is 24 hours. Not good.

Windsor-Essex has its first death from COVID-19.
Windsor Regional Hospital Chief of Staff, Dr. Waseem Saad, told AM800's The Morning Drive that a man in his 80s died Tuesday night in the Intensive Care Unit.

According to Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the man had underlying chronic health issues and had recently travelled to Michigan.

Saad says this was only a matter of time.

"This is unfortunately one of those inevitable things with this pandemic," he says. "When this was spreading across the world, we said it wasn't a matter of if, but when it comes to Windsor."

Dr. Wajid Ahmed is asking people not to panic, but to stay at home as much as possible to "break the chain of transmission."

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported its first positive case in the region on March 20 and announced Apri 1 that there are now 92 cases.

Ontario COVID-19 daily cases nearly double in 24 hours with 351 more cases reported

Ontario’s confirmed COVID-19 cases have nearly doubled since yesterday with 351 more lab-confirmed cases reported this morning.

Yesterday there were 211 cases reported. The total test-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ontario is now 1,706, including those who have recovered or died from the virus. The province is reporting 23 deaths attributed to the virus, but the provincial website states its death toll is likely behind what regional health units are reporting.

In Timmins, the number of confirmed cases remains unchanged this morning.

As of this morning, the Porcupine Health Unit is aware of 259 tests submitted locally. There are 10 positive cases, 160 negative, and they are waiting on the results of 89.
The province is now also reporting 431 recoveries from the virus since changing the standard for a recovery. “Resolved” cases now refer to those who have confirmed negative tests, or those who have been recovering at home for 14 days or more.

In Ontario, there have been 857 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in males, and 837 in females. There were 42 people under 19 who tested positive for the virus and 1,319 between the ages of 20 and 64. There are 343 cases confirmed in patients 65 and over.

There have been at least 48,461 tests done in Ontario.

Of the confirmed cases reported by the province [[1,706) 26.3 of them travelled in the 14 days prior to becoming ill, 9.6 per cent had close contact, 16.2 per cent had neither travelled nor had close contact, and 47.9 per cent have exposure information pending.

Almost ten per cent of patients confirmed COVID-19 positive have been hospitalized.

Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, said during an update yesterday she is keeping a close eye on Ontario, Quebec and Alberta — provinces where the coronavirus is spreading within communities — to see if there will be a decrease in the rate of new confirmed cases, as British Columbia has seen.

She said this week will be crucial in determining trends in the virus’ spread in each province.

There are more than 6,000 cases of confirmed COVID-19 in Canada, and at least 60 deaths have been reported. However, that number is behind since there are about 30 deaths in Ontario with about 10 deaths reported on the weekend and attributed to COVID-19.

From Wednesday to Sunday this week, Ontario’s new cases doubled with 100 new cases reported on Wednesday [[March 25) and 211 reported yesterday [[March 29).

The increased number of confirmed cases could, however, be related to more expedited test results.

Dr. David Williams, chief medical officer of health for Ontario, said the province was able to complete about 4,100 tests per day, just shy of a goal for 5,000 tests which was set for the end of this week.

"We're getting close to that number," Williams said.
Dr. Barbara Yaffe, deputy medical officer of health, said they're aiming to have the capacity for close to 19,000 tests per day by mid-April as new testing centres open.

There's talk of taking down basket-ball hoops here and in NY to keep young folks from congregating to play.
