Default More than a quarter of workforce in Mich. files for unemployment

Another astonishing headline in these most astonishing times.

Michigan now has one of the highest numbers of unemployment claims, behind only California and Pennsylvania, withmore than a quarter of its workforce filing for benefits, the state's labor department head said.
“Michigan is higher than all Great Lakes states,” Jeff Donofrio, director of the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, said Tuesday.

“Michigan is higher than the state of New York, which also has been heavily hit by COVID-19” Last week, he said, the state paid out about $240 million in benefits. This week, with the addition of $600 per claim in federal money, the amount is expected to be substantially higher.

It does show just how Mich. is still a blue collar state. Salaried white collar employees do not face nearly as high a percentage of lay-offs.

Not if the others are trying to make money from selling off the water. Then it's everybody's.

As far as I know, that is not a state nor is it part of the US,so I don't know what that has to do with US unemployment claims

Nothing. But it does have to do with the post I responded to about who else besides MI is on the Great Lakes.

Also good call on CA not being a State or part of the US. You're up on your geography.

This is where these posts went awry. Michigan is called the Great Lakes State because it's the only one that borders 4 of the 5 great lakes. In Canada, you could call Ontario the Great Lakes Province for the same reason but we don't.

Do you even know what angst means, because there certainly was none on my part in any of the related posts; just facts.

Some will never trust vaccines - and they don't have a perfect record, some being more affective for the previous years flu than the current one.

Smoking weed and coronavirus: Even occasional use raises risk of Covid-19 complications
    By Sandee LaMotte, CNN
Updated 8:22 AM ET, Fri April 10, 2020

“If you're smoking weed to ease your stress during the coronavirus pandemic, experts say it's time to think twice.

Smoking marijuana, even occasionally, can increase your risk for more severe complications from Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.”

I'm surprised this study hasn't received more attention. The lines between social distancing and herd immunity are starting to erode. I'm betting the statistics in the Metro Detroit area are similar, especially in the inner city.

^ my guess is a big player hit capacity and is dumping causing the drop.

See any empty tankers floating about? We could do a group buy.

Consider the difference between Friday’s prices for West Texas Intermediate to be delivered in May, which was $18.27 a barrel, and in May 2021, which closed at $35.52: A $17.25 spread could be locked in by buying contracts for oil to be delivered next month and then selling contracts for delivery a year later.

That is from a WSJ article

There are 5 major companies that still have a storage capacity of over 10 million barrels. The guys making the money are those who are filling tankers up and storing them off the coast of Africa, they charge 10c per barrel per day for storage.

A Panamax tanker ship can hold 500,000 barrels of oil.

    ULCC 4 million barrels worth.
