Look I'm not going to bash the United States. But neither will abide mindless boosterism.

I have no time for that by Canadians either.

Nor do I rank Canada as the best country in the world, though on balance, I'm quite fond of it.

The issue is not whether the United States is decent country and better than many.

That much is self-evident and without dispute.

Nor is the notion that other countries are without their flaws, indeed, some have deeper or more numerous flaws that the United States.

    So what?

    Who cares?

What's objectionable is mindless 'mine is bigger than yours' dick-measuring.

Beyond which, ranking countries is difficult to say the least as I don't think 10 Americans [[or Canadians or diverse citizens of the world) could be expected to agree on an absolute criteria or how to weight said criteria.

While there can not be an 'objective' best. Most of us could probably agree on some set of factors that we would all value.

Life expectancy, low rate of violent crime, high rate of social mobility, high median household income, high cancer survival rate at 5 years post diagnosis, low levels of pollution, high labour standards [[workplace safety, freedom from discrimination/harassment etc.) and a slew of other factors.

While I don't think that list [[or any other) can exist objectively [[with weighting etc.); I can reasonably say that no such similar list, by anyone would rank the US #1.

That doesn't mean bupkis in the real world, except that it makes your bragging rather hollow and that much more obnoxious.

    Btw,

Life Expectancy in the US, 29th in the world.

Infant Mortality in the US 34th in the world, just behind Russia.

    https://data.oecd.org/healthstat/inf...ndicator-chart

Homicide Rate, the US is 143rd lowest is the world! Just below Zambia and Sudan.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ate#By_country

And so on. The US does so much better in some categories but in very few is in top 5.

That doesn't make it a bad country, it does make people who mindlessly yell 'we're number one' look foolish.
