Prior to their famous depot in Roosevelt Park, the Michigan Central railroad used a depot at 3rd and West Jefferson. On December 26, 1913, that station burned to the ground. The
railroad had plans to open their new depot early in 1914. Given the importance of rail transportation, the railroad was, I have
read, able to begin running service into and out of the Michigan Central depot we know so well on the afternoon of December 26, 1913. I am glad the depot has a new lease on life.
