Does anyone know what is on the lot now? Curious as to see what the new development turned out to be.

Any building not properly maintained will see the wrecking ball eventually. True of the houses of this era; true of old city hall.

I believe that 481 E. Jefferson was actually the pre-1921 address of that house. The "new" address was 1363 E. Jefferson, which would place it on the north side of the street a few lots east of Rivard. Approximately where the eastern portion of this building stands today:
Newberry's business partner, James McMillan, built an even more palatial house a few hundred feet to the east on Jefferson. This house eventually became home to the University Club. It was later demolished and replaced in 1931 with the University Club building that we recently lost.
Newberry and McMillan also built 2 of the first large 'cottages' along the GP lakeshore, a matching set known as Lake Terrace.
Interesting information here. True teamwork.
Very interesting that Newberry Street and McMillan Street are residential streets that run parallel in southwest Detroit. Nice tip of the hat by the City of Detroit for these turn of the century businessmen/politicians!
