I do agree that a huge difference is 24 x 7 cable and the Internet.

I do remember that some of the Watergate hearings were shown on live television in the days before cable TV.

Watergate was a 5 or 10 minute story on the national news plus whatever was in the Detroit News or Free Press except for REALLY big news.

    Didn't have CNN Breaking News 10 - 20 times a day.

The results of a lie detector test that Stormy Daniels took in 2011 have been publicly released:

Nice of Trump to raw dog a porn star and then go home to his wife. For her sake, I hope Melania has been tested.

Nice of Stormy Daniels to put out to further her career. I guess she's a member of pound-me-too.

She's a porn star and proud of it. Do you think slut-shaming insults are going to bother her? Embarrass her? Deter her? She revels in them. She's a threat to Trump because she's every bit as shameless as he is.

Do you have any thoughts or opinions whatsoever on Donald Trump having unprotected sex with a porn star while married to his current wife, or the risks that that entails? Do you even care? Does it make you like him even more than you did before?

In all fairness to Trump and his voters he did say that avoiding STDs was his own version of Vietnam

So you care about our presidents wife now?

The reason lie dector tests are not admissible in a court of law is because you can fool them,in the court of public opinion they seem to be the final say.

lol, 9 years ago,was Mr Trump still considered a democrat at that time?

I think what he did back then is between him and his wife and personally do not care about what his sex life intails outside of public office.

I wouldn’t worry about Melania, I’m sure she has the best heath care this county has to offer.

Need to drill down some. There are two sides of the coin here:

1). Does it confirm that an honest person is telling the truth?

2). Does it confirm that a dishonest person is not telling the truth?

The big problem with lie detector tests is the 'false positives' whereby an honest person turns into a nervous wreck and appears to be lying.

It does much better confirm that an honest person is telling the truth that could be Stormy.

"Interestingly, the polygraph is quite good at identifying liars but does no better than chance at detecting honest people according to Lykken. In other words, there is a 50:50 chance that a polygraph test will say an honest person is lying [[a 50 percent “false positive” rate)."

Exactly my point, emusteve, what's yours? An honest person like a porn star that's used to lying on her back saying "Oh Steve, you're SO big, oh Steve, you make me feel SO good, oh, Steve, oh, oh, OH!" For money. That kind of honest person?

I can't believe anybody cares about this crap. He wasn't president when he slept with this bimbo. It's between him and his wife. Meanwhile there are real issues in the world that need attention. Coverage of this is being used to distract you.

I'm not sure we are saying the same thing.

There are 'false positives' and 'false negatives'.

In simple terms, I would have fairly high confidence say 80 - 90% in a person who "PASSES" a lie detector test,

but only say 50% if the person FAILS it.

Stormy 'passed' it so I assume there is probably an 80 - 90% chance she was telling the truth.

If she 'FAILED' it then it would be have inconclusive, either way. That is where the 50 - 50 comes in and that is like picking the winner of the Super Bowl.

Exactly! The woman is a trained "actress". Can you imagine yourself taking all your clothes off in a room full of people with voice recorders and cameras, then having explicit sex with total strangers while being filmed, and acting like your having a good time? I can't. She does this for a living and remains cool and calm as a cucumber. Tell me she couldn't pass a lie detector test with the same demeanor? In fact, I'll go one step further, she agreed to take a lie detector test because she knew she could pass it. All the article was meant to show, which I did read in it's entirety, thank you, was that a lie detector test is not conclusive. A totally innocent person could fail the test if they don't have a calm demeanor, are intimidated by the person[[s) administrating the test, or by law enforcement.

Are you saying that the test is say 80% accurate for those who pass it and those who are likely to pass it when they are lying are porn stars, politicians, used car salesmen, etc.?

BTW, I read decades ago the seminal [[not semen) work by David T. Lykken on this subject matter.

He took 3 groups, those clinically judged to be 'neurotic', 'normal' and psychopathic and used a memory drum with showed numbers 1, 2, 3, etc in serial order.

The subjects were told they would receive a shock at say number 7.

The normals showed some 'arousal' for example on the GSR [[galvanic skin response), the 'neurotics' showed the most, and the psychopathics the least.

I believe Lykken was trying to show a 'behavioral defect' in psychopaths, i.e., they seem not to respond emotionally when faced with the consequences of their behavior.

    Got to go... [[later).

No, not "accurate", I'm saying the above mentioned crowed are more "likely" to pass it, then the average Joe [[Jane). Anyone that has a photo of their smiling wife and kids on their desk, and with a straight face, tells you" it was owned by a little old lady, that used it once a week to go to church", then gets a tear welling up in the corner of one eye and says "but because of her age and medical condition, can no longer drive it", is more likely to pass the lie detector test, then some who is pooping in their pants @ the very mention of taking one.

So you don't know the difference between acting and lying. You know there IS a difference, right?

Anyways, her 60 Minutes interview is airing this Sunday. Tune in!

You're so cute. Acting, lying, faking it, no difference. It's all deception.

Funny thing about HT's comments is that a researcher would never say: We determined that 80% of those tested told the truth and 20% were found to have lied. We believe the liars to be porn stars, strippers, politicians, used car salesmen, etc. etc. We believe, conditional probability, that if a person is not one of those occupations the polygraph accuracy rate rises to 90 - 95%. Lol.

P.S. I apologize if anyone reading this is a used car salesman.

Another thing a researcher would never do is:

a.) Misconstrue the point someone has made to project an entirely different meaning onto the point.
b.) Use the point they've just misconstrued, to make it look like their argument is then valid.

    Forgot c...,

c.) Then play to the crowd looking for support for the folly they just made.
