I grew up 2 miles from there and 1) Anyone who lived in that area avoided the Yates vicinity like the plague during rush hour's or weekends in the fall. We would drive to Romeo for Cider Mill stuff because it was easier to do that then Yates 2 miles from our house. 2) I don't see how that proposal for the roadway would ever come to fruition. There are several private property owners and homes located where the proposed road would go. Good luck with that. 3) Yates really isn't all that great compared to a lot of the other cider mills, not by it's own doing, but it simply doesn't have the space that other places like Westview do. There is so much more to do and see at these other orchards, why the hell would anyone sit in bumper to bumper for 25 minutes just to get a donut and cider and pet a goat?

This kind of project is exactly what eminent domain is for. It's also drives up the cost of the project.

I haven't heard anything recently about this, so I don't think city and county officials are serious about it.

Does that large house at 23 & Avon have any relationship to the cider mill? I thought it might but that's based on a very old memory. Do the owners live there? It may well be as historic as the mill itself.

I wanna say yes, but I can't confirm that.

I thought I'd try to look it up on their website.

YatesCiderMill.com is okay but more commercial than historical. Under a section labeled "detailed history" there's no history at all. LOL!

Google found some news stories that stated Mike Titus owns [[or co-owns) Yates. Whitepages.com shows his address as that house at 23 & Avon. So he lives next door to his work. Nice commute!

Wonder if liability for the dam near Yates Cider Mill played a role in the current ownership of the entity ?

Les Posey, the owner of Yates, involved in drowning case
