Democrats had ruled Detroit for over 50pl years and the city had been on a downward spiral since. It's true that the auto industries including GM had crapped over Detroit and south east michigan by laying off many employees and closing down plants in favor of driverless cars that only those in foreign countries could afford and screw us in Michigan. It's time to make Michigan including Detroit attractive to new for of industries

More evidence that New York almost overpaid for Amazon:

Amazon.com Inc. may have dropped plans to build a campus in New York, but many technology industry leaders say the city is on track to become a go-to innovation source for businesses world-wide in the next few years, according to a study by KPMG LLP.

More than half of the executives recently surveyed by the accounting giant said Silicon Valley will cease to dominate global tech innovation within the next four years, as New York, Boston, Beijing, London and other cities continue their evolution into tech innovation powerhouses.

They cite factors that include an expansion of tech investing in cities and regions outside of San Jose, Palo Alto and Menlo Park, Calif., KPMG said.

^ I am not sure why they did not stick with the plan they had before Amazon, which is back in play,it was geared to the future and what is coming and actually was more community minded then plopping amazon down in the middle of chaos.

Not sure that any one city can bank on the path of tech, the way it is going all one really needs is space in a building,I think the whole company owned store with the campus will go the route of the malls.

It will proably be based on where the VC and government contracts end up going but I still think transit wise,Michigan is really in the best position in the future.

Can we burn 50+ pages of thread into ashes and start over ?

Even though a Phoenix is immortal and powerful,
it's still vulnerable to iron like many other supernatural creatures.
Like most monsters, a Phoenix could be killed.
They combust upon death, and their ashes are able to kill Eve, the Mother of All.

Amazon Looking For A New HQ - Detroit-Windsor Bid Rejected

This morning Amazon announced they are looking for a city to build a second headquarters. $5 billion dollars to build and operate, along with 50,000 additional jobs.

I think Detroit may be a longshot, but is there a case for them to come here?

    Detroit - rejected - Dead - Not Available - No longer an option - POST # 1

Speaking of Amazon, you can order salty fish, next day delivery.

    https://www.amazon.com/s?k=salted+fish&ref=is_s

It is a focused discussion, you just need to open your mind and look at the bigger picture in order to see how it is all relevant and how it applies, today and in the future, any questions, feel free to ask.

New York did not need Amazon, they already had a plan in place that would have served the needs for everybody in the community, far better long term then Amazon.

So why did they drop them and offer up 7 billion For Amazon?

Amazon already had a good idea of where they were going but yet everybody jumped on the bandwagon of trying to out incentivize everybody else, but then Amazon showed us that it really had nothing to do with incentives.

So what really was the end goal of Amazon?

To me the message is,if you make your community the best that you can for the citizens it encompasses,it will become desirable and draw people and new buisness.

It is kinda like a house foundation,if it is not solid,no matter how much you add on to it,it will never be solid.

How it applies to Detroit,is that is what you are doing right now, laying a solid foundation that encompasses everybody, imagine If Amazon had said yes to Detroit, all hell would have broken loose.

There are still new projects and a lot of positive things happening without Amazon, the city is moving forward at a pace that it can absorb, the residents and current administration is making that happen, not Amazon.

When you create a place where you are happy and comfortable it shows and you will not have to bribe others to join you.

If one gets complacent then it all goes away, back to square one,as you well know.

It did not matter if the current mayor was a Democrat or Republican, there is a strong case there to say he was the best person for the job, keep thinking along those lines and remember the messages you want to send in actions.

Yes please, let's carry it on forward with some salted Fish.
Doesn't seem to matter what the original topic was - Why not Fish ?
Amazon has The Golden Duck Gourmet Salted Egg Yolk Fish Skin Crisps Chips

Of course you could just fish the Clinton River this weekend,
for some fresh fish in some serious salt slurry from the rain runoff.

I would rather beat the dead fish of the DETROIT bid that was lost.

Move the thread to ----- NOT Detroit

Maybe it is like your fish theory and is to deep of a subject for you to understand,so instead of trying, you just wish for it to go away?

Speaking of fish, you are aware that fish swim in the ocean, which is salty, when you cook them, you do not taste the salt,so they are not absorbing the brine.

You may have an argument for a catch basin which would remove the pollutants before they had a chance to enter the waterways.

But that would also be a null discussion, because half of the cheap junk imported from China and sold through Amazon and others is tainted with all kinds of heavy metals that make it into the water ways,so it would be like weeing into the wind anyways.

Bezos gave $2 BILLION to charities this year through his Bezos Day One Fund. He’s helping build and fund preschools in low-income neighborhoods and supporting nonprofits that help the homeless.

Mr. Bezos made more charitable contributions in 2018 than any other individual in the country. More than Warren Buffett [[the billionaire who says billionaires don’t help enough). More than Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and Michael Bloomberg combined.According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy [[COP), Bloomberg donated a massive $767 million to charities in 2018. Bill Gates gave about $138 million. And Zuck gave his charities a gift of $214 million. That’s about $1.119 billion, all told. But even when you add up the donations of all three of those super-wealthy folks, that’s still nearly a billion short of Jeff Bezos’ charitable donations this year.

Slap that fish - next NON Detroit story please.

    Sidenote:
Catch basins do NOT remove pollutants from stormwater.
Retention basins do NOT do anything but hold the water, temporarily.
The Clinton River is far from clean, fresh, pure water, but feel free to fill up your canteen and drink from it , it's a free country after all, free water.
Especially now, its good and cold, refreshing !!!!

Like I posted,if you have any questions just ask.

You posted catch basins do not remove pollutants from storm water.

You should have posted,Do catch basins remove pollutants from storm water before entering the waterways?

I would have replied, yes they do and you can go here to learn how they do that.

    http://cornwall-on-hudson.org/Stormw...h%20Basins.pdf

The one thing I did not check was if one can actually purchase a catch basin on Amazon,of course it would proably be made in China with toxic chemicals,Kinda
defeats the purpose though, home owners can also install their own catch basins.

I am more interested in your thoughts as to how Detroit can prepare for the future today,so if another amazon thing comes along you do not have to bribe them with incentives?

PLEASE describe the "actual" pollutants a Detroit based Catch Basin
eliminates, removes, scrubs, de-contaminates, from the stormwater.
A grate, preventing a discarded empty beer bottle, doesn't do much.

I'm more interested in that, than some 50 page thread on the fact Detroit lost the bid, a very very long time ago and has zero chance of ever getting.

Please , pretty please with cherries on top and swirled whipped cream ?

    I asked, nicely.

GOD forbid people actually read - and think for themselves -
while other regurgitate what the newspapers already told us.

The Google search LINK FEST gives out gold stars to the one
who posts first, fastest, and quickest of an article just posted - elsewhere

For those that missed it in the other 50 pages - DETROIT lost the bid

If anyone wants a cautionary tale on the dangers of this kind of hyper-competitive luring of Big Business with billions in tax breaks, subsidies, and grants, look no further than our neighbors to the West. The Foxconn deal in Wisconsin has turned into a massive boondoggle and an outright $4 billion fleecing of the Wisconsin taxpayers, courtesy of dipshits Scott Walker and Paul Ryan.

    https://thehill.com/policy/technolog...consin-factory

Foxconn scored $4 billion in incentives to build a $10 billion factory in Wisconsin, promising 13,000 new high-paying jobs, many of them blue-collar factory jobs. Sounds good, right [[even if did come at rather steep cost). Except, oops, Foxconn never had any intention of ever delivering on that promise. They are now promising a much smaller factory, and those thousands of blue collar factory jobs? They aren't coming. Instead, Foxconn will mostly be hiring engineers...FOREIGN engineers, many from Taiwan where Foxconn is headquartered.

Remember, the WI taxpayers subsidized this to the tune of $4 BILLION.

And remember this the next time some Big Business assholes dangle a few jobs in front of the noses of the city of Detroit or the State of Michigan, asking for massive handouts in exchange. Be thankful Amazon went elsewhere, where they could suck the taxpayers dry for their own enrichment.

What is the beef with them hiring FOREIGN engineers?

I thought you were a stanch advocate with we are a nation of immigrants and all immigrants have the right to come to this country in order to undercut citizen wages.

They should have just offered Wisconsin a free bridge and it would have been no issue.
