[QUOTE=Honky Tonk;530295]You can't blame a guy for trying....
No. But you can blame a system that allows for endless wasteful spending of taxpayer money.
A Slight Return - in his case a sleight of hand
Couldn't they just do this via video and save the expense of flying him here? I can't believe that he's still trying to vacate his conviction and sentencing after it was rejected by the Supreme Court. How can he possibly claim that there was no corruption during his administration or that it was not within his administrative realm?
I'm also curious what, if any, restitution he's made thusfar. Has no one gone after his hidden/overseas accounts? Likely, Carlita is still living fat and happy somewhere off the radar with the proceeds from his "non-corruption".
Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell
New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver
'Nuff said?
Good. I'm glad he's doing this. It shows how bad he's squirming in jail.
401don,
The system does NOT allow it. That's why this thug is in jail! Many more need to join him.
Trip cancelled
"U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds, who is reviewing Kilpatrick's $1.6 million restitution tab to the city of Detroit, said she could decide the issue without a hearing -- which means no visit to Detroit for Kilpatrick, who is serving a 28-year prison sentence in Oklahoma for his 2013 corruption conviction".

^^^ Yep his visit has been denied. Look, I personally think 28 years is a loonn-ng stretch [[I think 18-20 would have been average time for his crimes) considering murderers are getting far less.
But he needs to resolve to do his time, with good behavior, which will reduce the years he'll serve.

He'll miss the Art Fair on Belle Isle this weekend.
If he had simply admitted his mistakes and made a good faith effort to make restitution [[which I understand he or his family had the means to do), he may not be in prison at all.
So .... 'good' doesn't seem to be in his vocabulary.
^^^ Thank you for clarifying that. Looks like it's gonna be a long sentence...

Hopefully 20+ years is enough time for folks to LEARN
he was an absolute embarrassment for Detroit ,
and he has zero chance of returning here for any position.
No field trips, sit and do the time - because he committed the crime
Uh, yeah. I never said he did not do a great of damage. For sure!

Apples and oranges. McDonnell and Silver were convicted on corruption charges and both men saw their convictions overturned on appeal in less than two years.
Kilpatrick was convicted on felony charges for much more than just corruption in office. He was convicted for mail fraud, wire fraud, racketeering, tax evasion, obstruction of justice, extortion, perjury, and violating the terms of his earlier probation. He's already had numerous appeals denied by the U.S. Circuit Court and even the Supreme Court.
Even if the appeals court tossed the charges related to corruption in office, that would only reduce his sentence. He's still going to serve time for the other charges he was convicted of [[some of which he plead guilty to).
Yep, the counts are numerous and public record -- described in detail. Hard to square that he will not do some time if not all 28 years!
