Side question.

What are you flying in and how are you getting clearance to fly over downtown with all the Federal buildings? Possibly Ch4's chopper? I've seen it on landing and take off from the building's roof. Come to think of it, I wonder how they got clearance to put a heliport there among the U.S. Courthouse, McNamara, IRS, DEA, the Federal Reserve, etc. I guess that was a long time ago though, so maybe it was easier then.

Meddle, The only restrictions are as noted in the FAA FARs discussed many times here. TFRs [[Temporary Flight Restrictions) are in effect during ball games and large events only. The fact that we have a few federal occupied buildings in Detroit does not exclude flights. However, Presidential / VIP movement TFRs can be issued at anytime and are strictly enforced so pilots must check with flight service for ALL applicable notams immediately prior to any flight.
