Default Windsor's core office vacancy rate is twice as high as Detroit's.

In downtown Detroit the total office vacancy rate is 22.3% for the first quarter of 2024 compared to close to 50% in Windsor. What is Detroit doing differently? Over 40 per cent of core's office space is empty | Windsor Star

What would you need an office for in downtown Windsor?

Windsors core is not a major employment center ,so the occupancy rates are similar to any small town in the U.S.,others have it pegged at 41%,it’s not o no the sky is falling,it needs addressing but when you find the answers, sell them to the thousands of other cities in the same boat.

You cannot compare Windsor to Detroit, two totally different dynamics and Windsor has to find itself or it’s place, before it can move forward.

Look at the bright side, soon you will have a shiny new bridge and no more nasty smelling trucks driving through the city or enjoying the benefits of the millions they generate for the city coffers so Windsor will be like Detroit was, when you are at rock bottom, the only way is up.

Cause and effect, sometimes people really do not look at the bigger picture.

What is Windsor and why would I put an office there?

Push comes to shove, you guys can always declare martial law and force workers back into the office or face the consequences, seems to be easy enough to do with the stroke of pen.

For discussion sake and not taking anything personal but to me Windsor existed because of Detroit and was always attached at the hip.

Detroit crashed,Windsor crashed,Detroit moved on Windsor got left behind.

Detroit is re-inventing itself as a technology driven hub,the cars are secondary.

Then you have Windsor Kinda stuck there in the corner of both Canada and the U.S..

It’s kinda cool In a way though because Windsor is small enough to reinvent it into something really nice, the problem is not that you have vacant office space, the vacant office space is a result of the underlying problem

I would be thinking along the lines of making it a destination city, like make the entire city based on arts, crafts and antiquities,Kinda like a boutique city where people from Toronto,Montreal or Quebec would not even be considered cool unless they could say they frequent there and spend all kinds of money.
