    Millennials might be moving to cities but that is only because they are single and its cool to do so. Wait to they have a family to raise.

    Yes, you're right, Obama and Hillary [[oops, I mean Killary) are secretly grand dragons of the KKK, and Trump, the great racial uniter, a regular MLK or Gandhi, was elected to save us from their white nationalist, anti-immigrant plot...

    Yes. We are doomed with uninformed indoctrinated brainwashed fools such as yourself. There is a reason the term useful idiot is applied to leftists.

    This is incorrect. Per the Census, almost all recent U.S. population growth is in urban centers.

    Also not true. Births to high-income households are soaring in U.S. urban centers.

    In the past, people would move to the suburbs because it was overall more desirable. Nowadays, people generally move to the suburbs because it's cheaper and that's all they can afford. Times have changed.

    And, yeah, Metro Detroit is different.

    You do realize most of Trump's towers are in cities [[i.e. Chicago along the Michigan River, NYC etc). He doesn't usually make his money from Wixom or Brownstown type developments.

    Nearly 12,000 voters in Detroit proper voted for Trump. That's a far different number than 5 votes.

    Rather than lament and weep, we should make sure we do everything we can to ensure economic stimulus to Detroit. Duggan realizes you get more done working together, which is why he is with Snyder on a trade mission to China.

    We can leverage a good relationship between Snyder/Trump/Duggan to our benefit. That's what smart people do. Clowns walk around fuming. Creepy clowns.

    This is generally wrong. Trump's wealth is from suburban development in the postwar era. His father got fabulously wealthy by building sprawl, mostly in the greater NYC area and in Florida.

    And Trump hasn't been a developer for 25 years now. He stopped building in the 1990's and transitioned to licensing his name to various ventures.

    Are you saying because he built Trump Tower back in the early 80's, that we should assume he has some inherent interest in urban issues?

    Okay you cite 3 major cities NY, SF and LA. What percentages of the population growth is by citizens?
    All three of those cities have tremendously high cost of living and taxes. SF has a huge homeless problem. NY is surging in crime despite what the mayor portrays. LA well LA is LA. How can you say that the average middle class working person or retiree would prefer those locations over somewhere like a small town in AZ, or Tn?
    The people I know that have college degrees live in the burbs and work in the city just because of the reasons I stated before. [[Less Crime, Better schools and better services.) Anyone with money that claims to live in a major city lives in a gated community.

    I 100 % agree with you most people in my neighbor hood in Macomb mostly 30's or older refuse to cross 8 mile, it looks like a war zone. Macomb is not like Oakland County where you can hop on I-75 and avoid the neighbor hoods to get downtown. I have a college degree, and live here due to what you said,

    Early in his acceptance speech, he said as much. He didn't mention many issues. That he mentions 'fix[[ing) our inner cities' was worth noting:

    [[APPLAUSE)
    We are going to fix our inner cities and rebuild our highways, bridges, tunnels, airports, schools, hospitals. We’re going to rebuild our infrastructure, which will become, by the way, second to none. And we will put millions of our people to work as we rebuild it.
    We will also finally take care of our great veterans.
    [[APPLAUSE)
    The above is from the NYTimes. You can read the full & watch the full transcript: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/10/us...ript.html?_r=0

    I was quite surprised to hear him actually say this. But it was consistent with his comment to black, urban voters that they have nothing to lose, since they haven't been helped by the usual suspects.

    This comment was really early in the speech. Did I say it was surprisingly early in the speech. Fixing inner cities was ahead of taking care of veterans. I think that means something. He knows there's an opportunity to do something good for our cities. Will he?

    And for the record, Trump will likely go down as the most liberal Republican ever elected president when his term is over.

    If someone takes him out, his VP pick will likely be one of the most conservative Republicans ever president.

    Things actually could be worse.

    Yes, because SO many liberals are endorsed by the KKK.

    I guess his progressive priorities have been inspiring the immediate uptick in hate.

    I don't know what neighborhood you live in scooter... but all my friends and acquaintances who live in Macomb County [[who are not elderly) DO go into the city via a freeway... north of I-696 they go down to I-696 to either I-75 [[if you live west of Van Dyke) or I-94 [[if you live east of Van Dyke) to go into the downtown, Midtown, or New Center areas. For folks on the NE side either Gratiot to I-94 [[north of 13 1/2) or just I-94 for folks in SCS, Eastpoint and Roseville.

    I find mainly the Macomb elderly don't go downtown... but those that have a reason [[singer?) and ride, will do so.

    Um, almost all?

    And nice transition incorporating the Trump "The illegals are taking over the US" racist lie.

    You really think "illegals" are all moving to Park Avenue and Silicon Valley? That makes zero sense. NYC's white population is growing, while its nonwhite population is shrinking. Must be all those "illegal" Swiss bankers and Dutch hedge fund bros and Swedish models Trump is courageously saving us from...

    This is a lie. Per FBI's annual crime stats, NYC has never had lower crime in modern history. Crime has plummeted in NYC in recent years, and is lower than most U.S. suburbs, even.

    Because places like NYC and SF have super high home prices and AZ and TN are dirt cheap. If people wanted to live in Hooterville, TN, then the home prices would reflect the relative demand.

    Macomb County is generally highly undesirable, probably in terminal decline, and already a near-slum in significant parts. Don't worry, the rest of us try and avoid much of Macomb too.

    And better not cross 8 Mile. Might encounter blacks or high culture in Detroit or, even worse, educated people in the Pointes. Much better to stay in gorgeous, sophisticated Warren and Roseville and Fraser.

    Yes. Someone who believes that 99.99% of hate crimes are "fabricated", who claims that Obama and Hillary are linked to the KKK, and who willingly supports a white supremacist movement, is almost certainly an irredeemable racist.

    This is a lie. Per FBI's annual crime stats, NYC has never had lower crime in modern history. Crime has plummeted in NYC in recent years, and is lower than most U.S. suburbs, even.

    Overall crime is down but violent crime is up.

    A quick look at last years release:
    http://abc7ny.com/news/de-blasio-and...stics/1145112/

    So if you are living in one of the rich Burroughs life is good but damned be to the middle class scum.

    Ask a Chicago inhabitant if homicides are up or down.

    Those Hooterville places have lower tax rates making it affordable for those whose incomes have peaked and or are fixed.
    Which is why people of the not privileged class ARE moving to those areas as they flee the insanity of a socialist agenda.

    Ah youth.....

    Meanwhile here is his plan for the 1st 100 da ys in office .

    first, propose a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of congress;

    he would probably make it two terms each up to 8 years in higher office and that's it.

    * second, a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce federal workforce through attrition [[exempting military, public safety, and public health);

    that will save a lot of money in the by the next sequester and fiscal budget.

    * third, a requirement that for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated;

    what would trump pick to deregulate social welfare programs?

    * fourth, a 5 year-ban on white house and congressional officials becoming lobbyists after they leave government service;

    like a businessman he undoing reagan's corporate welfare lobbying tactics that effect the middle class.

    * fifth, a lifetime ban on white house officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government;

    this is a start of make potential enemies of foreign nations.

    * sixth, a complete ban on foreign lobbyists raising money for american elections.

    he's right, foreign nations has no place in american politics. Let us deal with our problems, you deal with yours.

    on the same day, i will begin taking the following 7 actions to protect american workers:

    * first, i will announce my intention to renegotiate nafta or withdraw from the deal under article 2205

    * second, i will announce our withdrawal from the trans-pacific partnership

    * third, i will direct my secretary of the treasury to label china a currency manipulator

    * fourth, i will direct the secretary of commerce and u.s. Trade representative to identify all foreign trading abuses that unfairly impact american workers and direct them to use every tool under american and international law to end those abuses immediately

    * fifth, i will lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars' worth of job-producing american energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal.

    * sixth, lift the obama-clinton roadblocks and allow vital energy infrastructure projects, like the keystone pipeline, to move forward

    * seventh, cancel billions in payments to u.n. Climate change programs and use the money to fix america's water and environmental infrastructure

    that will keep american jobs here. No more taking jobs to mexico, china, india and south korea.

    additionally, on the first day, i will take the following five actions to restore security and the constitutional rule of law:

    * first, cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum and order issued by president obama

    legalizing same sex marriages in the u.s. Will be one of those tactics to overturn in the u.s. Supreme court.

    * second, begin the process of selecting a replacement for justice scalia from one of the 20 judges on my list, who will uphold and defend the constitution of the united states

    * third, cancel all federal funding to sanctuary cities

    that means cities like seattle, portland and even new york city will not receive any more federal funding.

    * fourth, begin removing the more than 2 million criminal illegal immigrants from the country and cancel visas to foreign countries that won't take them back

    lots of immigrants and foreign nations will not like it.

    * fifth, suspend immigration from terror-prone regions where vetting cannot safely occur. All vetting of people coming into our country will be considered extreme vetting.

    for example "if you're a radical muslim going to any arab-muslim dominant nation where international terrorism is law of their land." and try to return to u.s. You will not ne permitted to enter unless you're not radicalized.

    So this thread descends into accusations of racism and fights over whether the 'truth' is being told.

    As to truth, get over it. Truth is not 100% objective in many cases. Facts are rarely simple facts, like water is made up of Hydrogen and Oxygen -- but they are usually complex, like sea water also has salt. But its still water. Actually, it is rare that you can find 'pure water'.

    As to racism, I've come to believe that the main reason Trump won was because the racist left can't accept that racism is a minor problem today. And calling everyone and everything racist alienated otherwise reasonable people. People who think that most cops are good [[as I believe).

    Bad cops exist. Racially motivated police brutality is a big problem.

    Racists exist. Racially motivated violence and discrimination remains a big problem.

    Neither is a major problem in the US.

    This election was about race. But it wasn't a racist vote for Trump. It was an anti-discrimination vote by whites against the discrimination by Clinton & the intelligentsia who express hate towards all whites. Calling them racist. Ignoring their issues. And elevating every special interest group to holy status -- while forgetting that most people of all races are mostly good people.
