The party of small goverment likes to be involved in everything you do.
Yes, you read that right.
It's Texas. What else do you expect?
No, this is precisely why we don't think Detroit is stupid [[as much) about public financing for stadiums. Stadiums in the NFL and MLB average about 75% public financing. Detroit's stadiums average about half of that.
A billion dollars to put in a roof and air conditioning because nobody realized 20 yrs. ago it gets hot in Texas. Must be global warming.
So Arlington still owes 100 million on the current stadium, but they think it's a good idea to tear it down and roll that debt on top of the new one? That sounds like something a shady care salesman would suggest. They get my vote for clownsil of the month.
Do any of Dallas's sports teams play inside the city proper? Oh well...
Bingo. You win.
If I read the article correctly, the fine folks in Arlington are afraid of losing the team...
“Economic development rule No. 1 is keep what you have,” Yelverton said.
Arlington, TX apparently has a love affair with pro teams [[also think Cowboys) and is willing to pay for that love affair...
I have no idea how serious of a threat to Arlington the city of Dallas would be as a suitor for the Rangers.
BTW, American Airlines Center is in Dallas...

Well let's also consider they are the Texas Rangers, not Dallas Rangers. But yea, whoever thought that an open air stadium in Texas was a brilliant idea must not have lived there or consulted about temperatures. But was mentioned before, this is Texas. The state that has towns with a 15,000 population and a $80 million dollar high school football stadium. Lot of quality money decisions being made down there I'm sure...
