I imagine for many that left an emotional detachment happens.

The entrenched culture is illustrated by the public school indictments.
The people that have 'removed' themselves but stayed in SE Michigan accomplished nothing but a short term fix. The entire region is now dealing with the ramifications of decentralization. As this region continues to implode people can blame Detroit or blame the hundreds of thousands that keep moving further out.

Either way, if one moved to Warren or Macomb Township or Oakland Township we are now dealing with the effects of the massive shift in population to a much greater area of land. Running from problems only delays the problems.
