Do you think $125,000 in taxpayer money is excessive?
Settlements like this are what leads to the proliferation of more [[And more ridiculous) lawsuits. Is a short period of embarrassment really worth 125k? And on top of that who knows how much her parent's lawyer's swindled out of Walmart itself. I noticed another article mentions that the woman has a mental impairment making it difficult for her to understand what was going on, but that's not the fault of the police or Walmart.
I'd like to see some serious reforms to the way the courts handle civil lawsuits. As it stands now these ambulance chasers are basically just throwing handfuls of darts hoping that a few will blink and pay out. Consumers and the general public deserve a means of suing if they have been injured or wronged, but cases like this show how out of whack the system has become.
