Not likely but intriguing and maybe sometime. I have often thought that if USA and Canada got behind this we could offer what had never been done before, a truly international Olympic venue as show in the graphic from the Freep .pdf renf linked. Having two countries lobbying the IOC would seem to give us an advantage.

It depends how much 'infrastructure' is currently in place. Some cities like the three named, L.A., S.F. and D.C., have excellent infrastructure.

Boston, e.g., doesn't have an Olympic caliber stadium in the Boston area. That would cost say 750M - 1B and have no usage [[unless the Patriots want to come back to BOS).

Hell, L.A. could have a brand new football stadium built [[for 2 NFL teams).

Snyder [[Redskins' owner) would like to build a new stadium at the site of RFK. That would be perfect for him and the Olympics.

Based on that, a no-brainer for L.A. They would have everything including a what 1.5B [[is that the cost) football stadium which would be great for Olympics.

All those venues in Detroit and Windsor is fine if it would happen in 68. But its not going to happen in Detroit, no way! Not in the 100 years. The IOC took Detroit off the Summer Olympic bid since 1972. The IOC sees Detroit as a regional mess back in the 1970s, 80s and even the 90s. They took a look in the 2000s, still a mess. Now its 2015. The IOC sees Detroit is in a slow comeback, but still they see abandon buildings, black and blight ghetto-hoods and more violent crime.

Take Atlanta, how did that city that is 60 percent black in 1990s won the 1996 Summer Olympic bid and Detroit did not? It's because Ted Turner and his CNN and Coca Cola buddies give the IOC and impressive regional plan to woo them? I'm not sure how Atlanta won the IOC bid, but they got their Olympics and they might get another bid by 2042.

Detroit will one day get the Summer Olympic bid, not 2024. Boston is the strong candidate. By after 2050 the IOC might but Detroit back the IOC bid. But first Detroit needs to clean up its 1967 from Coleman Young to Kwame Kilpatrick mess first. Every last abandon buildings must be gone. It's ghetto hoods had be gentrified to lure in a stable middle class. Violent crime must be reduced and deterred. More regional jobs must come back to the city. If Detroit can handle those urban problems, the IOC may consider to put Detroit back in the bid.

Until now let's leave the Detroit's bid for the Olympics alone. Just be patient, our time will come.

Just heard about the upcoming Olympics in Rio DeeJay Nero...

Awful stuff. New residential districts built around the new Olympic venues but rivers that were supposed to be cleaned up haven't been, new water sanitation infrastructure was never built. Lots of pockets lined in that one, much like Sochi. S'no wonder residents of Hamburg and Boston voted no in referendums and there is a trend there. Who wants to be subjected to the potential backroom operations that create wealth for a filthy few at the expense of a whole population?

We had the winter olympics here five years ago. It was a hell of a party. But it came with a massive price tag, especially when the 2008 financial crisis sunk the contractor building part of the athlete's village and the city had to pick up the tab to finish it.
