They should arrest ELMER and GASM, and the out of towner. They all broke the law.

So... Let's put aside the many cases of arson, car jackings, copper thefts and also might as well dismiss the strange spree of shootings and rapings that occur on the West side [[that seem to be a form of sanctioned terror), as well, and focus all our efforts on capturing a celebrity artist who isn't posting any racist slurs, death threats, or gang graffiti. Right? --and folks tell me I should see how my posts appear to others.

    Strongly agree with detroittrader.

Regarding Fairey, he has assistants who do his work, you can't prove he did any of the works that are in question.

No, I read there was some kind of mechanical issue, and a warranty was issued for Shepler's Ferry.

This assertion is not only factually incorrect, but also completely asinine. The DPD and the city of Detroit are not putting aside the cases of arson, carjacking, shooting, and raping to "focus all our efforts on capturing a celebrity artist." If you think that graffiti vandals should be allowed free reign in the city, just say so. Don't come off with ridiculous claims that violent crimes are being "dismissed" or "put aside."

Should the DPD just ignore vandalism and property crime because there are unsolved murders and carjackings in the city? Does turning a blind eye to vandalism help the police solve murders? Will Detroit be able to more effectively fight violent crime by allowing vandals to come into the city and brazenly commit property crimes with no fear of arrest or prosecution?

all these writers are doing is putting whipped cream on shit or lipstick on the pig if you will. The structures they typically target are dangerous, open to the elements, falling over and would cost more to rehab than to tear own and build new. I for 1 like seeing rap letters in town. Its a hard case to make that the buildings they hit up look better without an application of art put on them. A lot of people like seeing graf on the street. Its just Dyes is a bunch of frumpy old book burners. Young people are defacing abandoned shitholes hey dont own. Oh the nerve. Smells like a bingo hall and wet Depends in this thread

Shepard Fairey on his Detroit arrest warrant: 'Hilarious'
The Los Angeles-based Fairey, who has been arrested more than 15 times in different cities, compared the Detroit warrant to the time he was arrested in Boston and charged with 32 felonies....

"Sometimes when I've been arrested, I've pretended not to be me, but a disciple of me, as it were," he told the newspaper. "This is because at some point I realized that some people in the police force, if they realize you're a bigger fish, then they want a bigger notch on their belt."

I hope the Mayor, Kim Worthy and the rest of the enforcement community hunt him down and lock him up while they find a way to charge him in Federal court for his spree of destruction in multiple cities. What a conceited, self-aggrandizing asshole he is!

Yeah, I've noticed a bit near the I-515, but nothing near like Detroit.

ErikD, I've seen many threads talking about how limited and stretched tight the resources of the DPD and the city of Detroit are, and most of it comes from the very same folks with the "'ope they nab 'em and let 'im 'ave it good, mate" mentality. There are clearly many chains of crimes-including the ones I stated-not being pursued. To get bundled up about this is ridiculous.

Rex, what can we expect from the world of DY which is infested with poes, sock puppets, astroturfers, and trolls with agendas for the suburbs, certain corporations, capitol punishment, gentrification, guns, libertarianism, and a hatred for affirmative action and religion? They may even appear moderate in regards to issue about environment, union, or condemning Snyder, but you might not see threads condemning things like Cydcor, MLM's, and Amway, or mentioning strange blue triangles that appeared on the Wayne State campus after 9-11 or anything about a local artist who may be involved in Daterape drugs.

Sadly, Detroit really isn't all that represented here. It is mostly non-Wayne County residents with a Bhooz-wah Pharisaic "stone 'em dead" attitude. A lot of them are a lot like the bitter, petty types we got in Dearborn who put up nice holiday displays or a garden and than peer out their window suspiciously when a family drives by slowly to appreciate their hard work.

Frickin' weird, jive B.S. it is! Book Burners? I gave up even referring folks here to books. All they want is internet links.

A lot of the great posters who gave me encouragement when I posted my first thread about techno are not present anymore [[except one who was rather interested to here about a yet-to-be porn actress). Yet, I seem to have to contend with the same personaes. I can see why some choose to "die off". It is Jive. Thorough and embedded jive, but thanks, Rex, for your support from the getgo.

It's also full of long winded stoners who think if they write a long enough dissertation on a subject they'll be considered an expert. Buy yourself a sense of humor, kid, and quit taking my posts out of context, will ya?

The "victims" clearly don't realize how lucky they are. Particularly given the current price of Detroit real estate and the availability of good cheap labor. I'm no fan of Shepard Fairey, but his work is highly regarded among many others and is very valuable in today's art market. Before anyone removes the graffiti, I suggest they learn from what happened here:

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-32139657

Meanwhile, there's no doubt Fairey's work is simple to reproduce. In fact it was outsourcing the production of his work to minions of volunteers that made him famous. See his Andre The Giant "Obey" stencils for proof. And while I doubt he'd admit it, he's long been proven to be a plagiarist: http://www.art-for-a-change.com/Obey/. Neither originality nor craftsmanship are keys to his work.

In any case, for every graffiti "artist" [[and I agree it's polemic even to use that term) there are thousands of graffiti hacks. I certainly don't support them. Particularly not those whose intentions are clearly neither to beautify nor to offer social commentary but are solely to mark their territory or develop their "rep". The best among them are those with actual artistic intentions, like Banksy and Fairey. The worst -- and the only ones Detroit should be prosecuting given the obvious priorities and our limited resources -- are those whose intention is to mark gang turf.

Maybe the judge will order community service... Under supervision of armed guards, he gets to remove the graffiti from the 18 bldgs that he defaced. Then an escort to the airport.

If he's guilty, that would be a most fitting punishment, as well as some financial restitution. If he comes clean I would say he could even avoid jail time. If he's guilty and he fights it, then throw him in the slammer for 3-5 days in addition to the restitution.

It's so funny to read the Freep articles about this, there are all these supporters of "art" that are complaining that Detroit has too many violent crimes, and that all non-violent crimes should be ignored until a time yet to be determined. How laughable.

Detroit deserves better than vandalism. I don't live in Detroit, but I don't want it in my neighborhood. If I don't want it in my neighborhood, I'm sure many true Detroiters feel the same way.

For all those that say Detroit doesn't deserve better, I say, "SCREW YOU, BUDDY!".
