Perhaps, but Southfield for most of them is a shorter commute, or at least just as far as downtown Detroit. They also don't have to pay a commuter tax, and many husbands/boyfriends don't have to worry about their wives getting mugged or carjacked [[yes, people still believe this can happen in any part of Detroit).

Instead companies continue to chose office parks outside the core where you have to drive everywhere, where the architecture is meaningless, uninspiring crap. I agree, but if that's the way people around here choose to collectively live, then it is what it is. You're free to buck the trend yourself, but you can't force others to do so with you.

I really don't think that's true at all. People care about where they work, and the little things are what people complain about. People hate working in dingy musty offices with no windows, unreliable elevators, unreliable heating and cooling, etc. If someone's personal finances allow them to do it they'll take a small hit in their paycheck to work somewhere pleasant, and different people have different definitions of that. There's a lot of people who spend a lot of money to live and work in certain places.

But then it should have something where 80% live within like 5-10 miles or something. Outside of southern Oakland County, the commute difference is pretty marginal.

It's whatever, I wouldn't be surprised if they choose Southfield because it's currently cheaper than downtown.
