No, but I think Lowell should think about one of the garbage trucks to get rid of some of the posts around here.Detroit is auctioning off the trolleys as part of its debt reduction plan.

Here's a trolley photo from the story in today's Detroit News:

I actually rode the red one back in the day.
i was under the impression that they had all been sold off already...
one of the streetcars in san francisco is an former detroit car isnt it?
No, the PCC car painted in DSR colors was obtained from New Jersey Transit. The old Detroit cars went to Mexico City.
The pictured cars are single-truck Burneys like the infamous "Couzzens Cooties".
OK... this thread is taking a funny turn... that Trolley is from Washington Blvd., right? Cuz this thread is going off on talking about the DSR streetcars that went off to Mexico City in the 1950s....
I hope this isn't the only double decker trolley left that they are auctioning. At the very least this should be at the Historical museum or Ford. Here's a link to the Mlive article that has a photo of it. I could only imagine that floating around Grand Circus, Detroit was too cool..

The trolleys in Jimaz's photo ARE the the trolleys Detroit ran up and down Woodward in the 80's when THAT was popular. I remember riding those. I too became confused trying to follow the posted stories. Thanx for clarifying. After those, came the people remover, because monorails were popular, than came the rubber-tired trolleys, because those were popular, and, now, of course, they're putting in a blight rail, because those are popular. I hope, like the Monty Python skit, "this one stays up".

This IS getting complicated.... Did you mean Washington Blvd? The trolleys in Jimaz's photo ARE the the trolleys Detroit ran up and down Woodward in the 80's when THAT was popular. You know, I swear it was Woodward because I remember it stopped in front of the RenCen. The idea was to provide transportation for people from there to the business district. Ok, you're right, it was WB. I just remembered I used to see them housed for the night in a glass walled garage on WB. My mistake.
It was Washington. It was orginally meant to get folks from the hotels to Cobo. It was extended to the RenCen, but rarely ran that segment because the trolley would tend to jump the track at the right angle and there were too many people on the sidewalks of Hart Plaza back then!
I only rode it once. It was slow as hell.
