"The Michigan Economic Development Corporation [[MEDC)’s Michigan Strategic Fund Board today approved a series of projects that aim to bring more housing to the heart of Detroit.

Orleans Landing Project, located at the corner of Franklin and Orleans streets in Detroit, is a planned mix of retail and residential space. When completed, it will have 20 new buildings and 278 housing units.
Jack Hambene, senior vice president of urban development company McCormack Baron Salazar, said the firm focuses on urban development nationwide.
“For the last 20 years we’ve tried to do projects in Detroit, but it seems like the stars are aligned to make this one happen,” Hambene said.
The project will be on the Riverwalk, and apartments will be marketed toward those seeking an active urban lifestyle and people who work downtown.
The Michigan Strategic Fund Board approved $6.5 million in local tax capture, approved a $7.6 Michigan Community Revitalization equity support and reauthorized a $7 million Michigan Business Tax Credit.
The development is expected to create 39 full-time jobs and generate a total capital investment of $61 million.
MEDC Community Assistance Team Specialist Stacy Esbrook said the preference for Detroit development is mixed-use buildings.
“There’s a huge demand for residential in the Downtown and Midtown area but those residents want amenities,” Esbrook said.......

Wow, looks like they are serious. This could be sweet...
