Maybe "confusing" is code word for people who are lazy and want everything on one floor.

Or more than likely, in your own condescending way, you don't know what the hell you are talking about!

For anyone who has taken the walkway over from the parking structure with the intent of going to a Monroe Ave. restaurant first... getting from point A to point B can only be accomplished if you go into the middle of the 2nd level of the casino down the stairs to the first level, and then figure out that it wasn't worth your while to take the catwalk in the first place. There is no easy way to get from the 2nd casino level at Trappers Alley down to the first level without going thru the casino first... unless you are aware that there is an escalator hidden from view over by the People Mover station.

For someone who finds the RenCen layout easy to understand... I think that the Greektown Casino layout is very purposefully confusing... and could be a serious problem should there ever be need of an emergency exiting...

There is also stairs next to the people mover station entrance. There is a set of stairs + elevator in the high roller room. There is also another elevator on your way to the people mover entrance. The elevators will take you down to the ground level from the parking structure. While these options may not be readily apparent, they are available and I'm sure if you asked someone, they would point them out to you. Just wanted to point out there are a few more options then you're suggesting.

My notion of casinos are they are designed to be monolithic, maze like and awing. It's part of the conceived experience. That way, when you come back you may have a totally different experience from your first visit.

Why wouldn't the person who parked in the Greektown parking structure just take the elevator to street level if said individual wanted to eat at Monroe restaurant? No sympathy.

You must be talking about the elevators that you have to take down from each level of the parking structure... and just continue on beyond the catwalk level?? Duh... you mean it was just as easy as continuing down the elevator...

Hehehe... I only took the route across the bridge once... to see how they bastardized the corner of St. Mary's Victorian era school building... but there was no way to tell, since it was all drywall, terrazzo and metal... and also found out that there was no way down to the first level [[except for emergency exit) without going either inside the casino, or over to the PM escalator/stairs.

Good Friday... RAINING.... we do have sucky weather on occasion...

And I wanted to test out the [[then) new catwalk and where it would lead... to see just how easy it would be to take that route in the future... except that I never took it again... because it took about 50% longer than just walking at street level over to the New Parthenon.

Ya, it might be confusing if you're stumbling drunk.

The layout makes perfect and purposeful sense. If I owned a casino, I too would purposefully lay it out in similar fashion to get people to use the slots and tables because the casino slots and tables are subsidizing your free parking in a downtown core where parking is usually $10 and up. It's not confusing if you're going to use the slots or tables, which is why the garage was built. Why the hell should the owner of the casino make it convenient for you to use the casino owner's parking garage for free to exit on Monroe ave. when you have no intention of using the slots or tables?? Pony up and pay the $10+ to use an outside parking lot if you're going to patronize a restaurant on Monroe ave.

Hell, if I owned that casino, I'd have you towed if I knew what you were doing. In fact, I saw such a tow away sign the last time I drove into the larger garage. Likewise, why should I get dizzy twirling around up to the 11th floor to park my vehicle so you can eat at a restaurant on Monroe ave?

First off Dave... are you always in such a pissy mood?

Now let me bring you up to speed... the public owned parking garage that preceeded the Greektown Hotel/Garage was used by all Greektown patrons as a convenient place to park for going to the restaurants there.

I do believe that this process Dave has continued once Greektown built an even larger garage to handle not only its own patrons but also those few still going to the [[no longer as busy or as many) Greektown restaurants.

So if you feel inconvenienced because you have to take a few more spins around the double helix parking ramp... then perhaps you should stay in Windsor, at a less busy casino.

So when I park there [[like thousands of other folks who do so on non-game days when they don't demand a casino pass) visiting the restaurants at Greektown isn't going to hurt the casino... which took away restaurant parking in order to expand and is now sharing that parking for both casino and restaurant patrons.

Also I do believe that Greektown casino discourages all day parking by downtown workers by demanding a casino card during certain hours [[AM mainly, and during stadium events), but this is no longer used during midday to allow restaurant visitors, as well as casino visitors.

Even though the casino shares the parking structure parking with the restaurants... the restaurants along Monroe have really taken a hit. There are now only 3 Greek restaurants left on that stretch of Monroe... but by the sound of some casino patrons... that may still be too many...

And was that publicly owned parking garage that preceded the Greektown Hotel/Garage also free?

I agree that parking there to go to a restaurant isn't going to hurt the casino. I also don't know if they took away the parking for the restaurants as when I look from the garage it always appears when I visit that those outside $10+ pay parking lots still have available spaces in them. My big issue is when people complain about something they got for free when they had a choice to pay 10+ bucks for a more suitable alternative like an outside parking lot.

No it was not free, the city owned old Greektown parking structure usually charged about $2-$3 for parking there for lunch at Greektown. I believe that the city forced the casino to include parking for restaurant patrons in its larger garage. Just not sure of the specifics, both restaurant patrons and casino patrons ended up with free parking.
