Freeman Hendrix got Mildred Gaddis's endorsement for Charter Commission. Big surprise there. There's not a chance in hell that I'll be voting for him.

    2009 DHNC Candidate Considerations

There are an overwhelming number of new candidates for City Council
this election year. The Detroit Historic Neighborhoods Coalition [[DHNC)
gathered information from various sources to introduce its 30,000
residents to the new faces vying for these important positions. It was
very difficult to narrow the field as there are many qualified candidates.

We felt it important to wade through the 159 pages of survey answers
from the 105 candidates who responded to a community group and share with
you who DHNC considers the best new candidates. Please visit the candidate's web
site as well as the resources listed below for more detailed information
    on these and other candidates.

    City Council

Brenda Goss Andrews - Retired Police Chief with a long history of
advanced criminal justice training. Includes "Neighborhood Stability" as one of her top three issues.

the city's finances and to increase police presence in neighborhoods.

Gary Brown - Retired Police Executive who has stood up against
corruption. Focuses on core city services, implementing a balanced budget
and taking a look at the perception of safety in the city.

has the skill-set to balance the budget, work to improve small business
relationships and listen to community groups about what they need.

I am unable to understand why folks whose name appears on this list http://download.gannett.edgesuite.ne...ilfinances.pdf
are receiving endorsements. It is possible for circumstances to occur to anybody that will cause them financial problems. Understanadable. BUT clean up that problem, BEFORE you run for public office.

We all are crying for a clean sweep, and hope for a better council. So why are some willing to give a pass KNOWING there are pre-existing problems.

It's now Martha-ROSE Reeves, or Martha ROSE-Reeves - not to be confused at all with Barbara ROSE Collins - anyone else catch that segment on Channel 4? She said she is a memeber of the Detroit Lions, er ah, the Lions Club - something, used
the Lions logo on her campaign garbage. And so what if
JoAnn Watson didn't question her low, low taxes - did she think the $300 garbage fee was waived because she's so pretty? God save us if these people even make it on the ballot

I have no intention of voting for a guy who sees the condition of gas station rest rooms as being significant enough to deserve mention in his goddam mission statement.

And using enormous print to endorse him doesn't elicit any special consideration for him, either.

Cobo is as green as it is going to get right now. We currently divert the cardboard from the waste stream, and the products used for food service at the shows is petroleum free, biodegradable, and anually renewable. All waste is then sent to the Waste to Energy facility that provides the power and heat for the facility. A closed loop, sustainable process.....

Any greener and it is going to cost some serious $$$$..... but that is another thread.

Oh, it can get much greener. Like with a tree growing through the roof and weeds and various vegetation growing all around. I truly and honestly believe that if Anne-Ivory Calvert gets elected to council she can make it happen.

That poll does not bode well for Lisa Howze... Interesting that Babs and Sheila were selected in this poll even though they aren't running.

Looks like Miss Celebrity Rose-Reeves herself might not make it into the general election -- we can only hope she continues to serve as an "ambassador" for the city and have bizarre Jackson tributes with Charlie LeDuff.

Anyone else notice that http://martharosereeves.com/, the website for Ms. Reeves is, as of July 24th, all written in some sort of faux-latin? Also, the "latest images" link on the bottom right of the page links to an East Asian photo stream.

It's just a template. I have some CSS templates that have default content written in the same language. In other words, she never added her own content. I tried to leave a comment which didn't work either. Good for her because the comment wasn't flattering. Surely she has enough money to pay someone to add content to the site and make sure that it makes sense. If not, why even bother with the site to begin with? Her site is a glaring example of why she shouldn't be on the council. It's completely half-assed and nonsensical - much like her first term as councilperson.
