It appears that Roy Roberts will be in a position to demolish some of the schools he closed as Detroit Public Schools Emergency Manager.

Robert has been designated "Blight Czar" heading up a task force that includes Dan Gilbert. A $150 million has been provided by the Feds.

The officials also announced that Roy Roberts, formerly the emergency manager of Detroit Public Schools, will lead efforts to reform how Detroit deals with vacant land. In addition, the officials announced that former Marygrove College President Glenda Price, Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert and Linda Smith, executive director of U-SNAP-BAC, the east-side Detroit community development agency, have agreed to be part of a blight elimination task force that will tackle coordinating the effort.

Roberts will be responsible for helping lead an effort to rid the city of blight, which is often cited by residents as a major safety and quality-of-life issue. The city has more than 70,000 boarded or abandoned structures.
