Check the city master plans and dreams for a freeway system [[beginning with Davidson and then the Lodge. They were the city dreams at the time when most of the suburbs were farmland. The Federal interstate system was glommed onto by the city to pay for their freeway dreams.Um no... the city's "benefit"?? You make it sound like the Detroit Freeway system was somehow designed to acutally help Detroit?? Where did you get that idea?? The freeways were part of a federal plan that actually hurt the city in the long run. But it helped the federal master plan of the time... which the state of Michigan bought into.
Edit to add: City freeway schems were drawn up in the 1940s while fed interstate was 1954 [[as I recall).
