    Default Tiger Fans Trash Detroit

I must say, few love baseball as much as I, but I was kind of thankful to be at work to avoid the Hoedown Part 2 and all the wasted suburban assholes that come with it, to be perfectly blunt.

I just don't get why Detroit gets so disrespected - by both Detroiters and suburbanites. As much as people like to gush about how "nice" people are around here, I've found about maybe 10% are decent citizens with any sense of responsibility to anyone or anything but themselves.

Glad I wasn't around to see that shit. I'd probably land myself in jail for fighting somebody in an Inge jersey.

Years ago CAY caught hell because he made a statement about "suburbanites" coming into the City for events and trashing it out. @ the time, I had a parking pass @ Joe Louis Parking for work. Mornings after a hockey game, it was unbelievable what Joe Louis Parking looked like when I pulled in. There aren't too many Detroiters attending hockey games. "YEAH, DEEEEETROIT MFer!!!!"

If Bing had any sense and humility for the CITIZENS of Detroit, he'd respond the same way Young did.

Since this did happen on a Friday, he probably didn't get the news until the end of the office day.

So I'll give him a week to publicly make a statement putting these rednecks to shame.

If he doesn't, then I'm ripping him a new one.

I don't know why he caught hell for telling the truth. I witnessed a group of suburbanites throwing their fast food trash out of their car going down the freeway.

He caught hell because he was a black mayor in charge of, up to that point, a white City. He also was a bit rough around the edges, and right or wrong, didn't take a lot of shit from anybody. This rubbed a lot of white suburbanites the wrong way. Having had first hand experience with his statement, I agreed, and still agree, with what he said.

How do you know they were "suburbanites"? Did they have an "I love Royal Oak" bumper sticker.

Hah! No need to be oblique here... perhaps it was because they were white which while not a water-deduction in all cases, it's not unusual to assume such in a city that's 90% black.

They were suburbanites. A Honda Prius with about 3 or 4 lily white passengers headed north on I-75 after leaving the Casino, Tigers or Red Wings game. They were from the burbs, trust me.

Just curious - how do you know they were suburbanites??? Are you assuming that if they're white they must be suburbanites? Yes, odds are they probably were, but you don't know that for a fact. And I'm just referring to this trash-tossing incident. I agree that the majority of folks going down to Tiger, Wings games are not Detroiters, but that doesn't mean it's certian that any white person[[s) you see on the freeway in Detroit is not a Detroiter.

I already asked this. It's because they were "Lily White", drive Toyotas and they all had "I ♥ Royal Oak" bumper stickers.

It's the basically the reverse logic of what I use to identify Detroiters out here in the exburbs. Anyone darker than my hasn't seen the sun since September "Lily white" butt driving a mid 80's Caprice is a Detroiter. The "It's so Cold in the D" bumper stickers are also a dead giveaway.

I'm not trying to say this kind of behavior is ok [[because it isn't), but I think you're all being overly sensitive. This is what happens when you cram thousands of drunk people in a small area. Take a look at the fields where fans tailgate after any college football game... it looks just like this. The difference is likely that other cities and college campuses are probably better/faster about cleaning up the filth after. I've seen people pissing in the parking lot at Pine Knob plenty of times. Do you think they have some deep burning hatred for Clarkston?

You're right, I think, to an extent. However the difference here is that people actually live and work within a few feet of where these hooligans are barfing, pissing, and littering. There doesn't seem to be an understanding or respect for that. It would be as if someone parking in a subdivision in Auburn Hills and threw their garbage and bodily fluids everywhere. It simply wouldn't be tolerated because of the location.

My friends from the suburbs and I were walking downtown yesterday after the game. We were all appalled by all the garbage left behind. It's common courtesy to clean up after yourself. Everyone knows this!

Did you ever drive through a lot of the neighborhoods in Detroit? It's common courtesy to clean up after yourself. Everyone knows this!

I also like how the author writes this story assuming that no one at the game actually lives in the city. He blames it only on the suburbanites even though the city has 650,000 + living in it. Do they not like baseball or the festivities?

Yeah duh. I've been to a few baseball games... enjoyed the view and setting even though I am not big sports fan.

Did you piss in public or throw your trash out the window? If not, what kind of sports fan are you? You paid for a ticket, you paid to park your car, you probably paid for a burger before or after, that entitles you to come in and do WTF you want! After all, it is "DeToilet". On the WORST possible day of Detroit resident littering, NOTHING compares to a sports event.

The difference is that when Detroit gets trashed by a large group of visitors it is shown on television and everybody looks & says "what a shithole." When Pine Knob is trashed by a large group of visitors nobody puts it up as news and points a finger. Even if they did show it, the same people that see a McDonalds bag on the ground in Detroit and talk about how bad Detroit is don't seem to view it the same when it is outside of the city limits.

I am in no way defending the slob tiger fans, but if these lots are charging $20 per car to park they surely can afford to pay someone to pick up the trash afterwards.

Correction: Parking was $50 dollars plus!

Fact: Jerry had the opportunity to speak to several bottle & can entrepreneurs throughout the day. Many of them were not only very thankful to all the people for the financial opportunity, but very fortunate to make over $900. One entrepreneur had a brilliant "outside-the-box" idea of placing a 10-cent deposit on plastic cups to further alleviate the buildup of unwanted landscape items, how 'bout dat?
