Thanks, I guess that answers my question. I think that most of the people that replied were... not older, but maybe well seasoned. It sounds like an allowance is a thing of the past. Or even doing odd jobs when you're younger.

My guess would be that supplying your kid with a cell phone and giving them a little cash would supersede an allowance. I can understand that. But receiving an allowance in return for being some sort of a working family member seemed like a great way to understand the concept of a basic work ethic.

And don't let that baggage beat you up too much gnome, how could you have known? Damn, that's a tough one though.

I got $5 to $10 a week depending on what I did around the house. It taught me that I benefit from working, and I will do the same with my son.
