First, it is widely believed that the feds ARE targeting Wayne County next. Link. Second, the "dark chapter" is presumed to be over because for so long, corruption went unnoticed and unpunished. The feeling is that corrupt politicians are now on notice that their CURRENT actions are being watched. It's not only about getting those who have broken the law in the past, but deterring those who would do it in the future. That's the line of thinking at least.

I think that's why Barbara McQuade, the US Attorney, said yesterday that she hopes this case encourages businesses to come to her instead of complying with shakedown demands. Those witnesses that did work with the feds were key in taking down Kwame and Ferguson in this trial.

And I wasn't around then so my knowledge of this is limited, but wasn't Kwame also brought down by internal whistleblowers, like Gary Brown? Or am I way off base...

No, it is far more than that if you check the original charges stemming from the Navigator days and read the list of felonious charges. Most of which are 'Obstruction of Justice' violations in trying to conceal and coerce others including city employees to condone or look the other way regarding the corruption. And a review of the current charges reveal the bribery and other 'pay to play' cases pushing then envelope well off the table.

Cause and effect can be complex. Yes, the stupidity and arrogance of K2's cell/text/Navigator actions might seem to be the start of the Feds action -- but we will really never know.

When you run a pay-to-play with city money, you'll piss off a few people here and there. And they know the feds phone#. I think there's a good chance that something eles would have tipped the scales even if K2 had been wiser and more discrete.

Its a terrible shame that so many people in power have been using race to hide their personal crimes and immoral behavior. The 'us against them' mentality is becoming history. Its about time. And the feds did this with six black jurors. The evidence must have been compelling. I hope its published. I'd like to read just how K2 and Co. behaved.

The Sodom and Gomorrah story includes an episode of a gang surrounding the home of the last good man in town, who happened to be hosting a few traveling strangers for the night. Who happened to be the angels sent by the Lord to judge the towns, and level them if found wanting for anyone worthy of saving. The last good man supposedly offered his own daughters to the gang instead...quite gallant for the time, I guess.

It was merely a bad joke...and a dig on the group of guys that used to meet up at Bert's for late breakfast meetings. I used to see them all the time when I lived down there. I don't think they're gay. That's part of the joke.
