New Homes in Detroit

I'm still confused about why houses like this are built. They're cheap and put in neighborhoods where there is no other development. I'd rather see the same effort put into high-rise apartments, row houses, etc. Detroit has a glut of neighborhoods with cheap houses that take up large amounts of land. A 1000 sq ft. house does not make sense to me in 2012. It's trying to give the "American Dream" in the most minimal way. I'd rather have have a decent running economy car than a crappy cheap pseudo luxury car just to be able to say I have a luxury car.

Yep. And a luxury car stuck in the wrong place will be addressed quite fast and not in a good way.

Building new homes in a city where many of the existing homes can't be given away for free makes no sense.

Adapting to change is the only way to survive and Detroit needs to start adapting to it's new reality. Detroit might have a chance if it right sized it's borders to fit the current population.
