We have connected the dots of the website outage on DetroitYES last Wed. Sept. 21 and have discovered that it was not a Denial of Service attack, as we first suspected and posted in an announcement box once we recovered.

Instead it was the result of the Baby Zyia Death on Brinker Street thread going viral on the internet. This is the scoop thread from back in July where Packman41 put together a picture of a news media picture of a house related to the tragic crime with a Google Street View image of the same house showing a man pointing, what appears to be, a rifle at the street view car.

After spotting this article from our friends at deadlinedetroit.com today, in turn leading to a DetroitNew article, we pulled up our Google Analytics. Sure enough there was a huge spike hitting around 9 AM that ground our server response time to molasses.

We also see the "mention of the mention" was was spotted by 48091 and made on DetroitYES on the Baby Zyla thread starting here.

Mystery solved. On to trying how to figuring out how to absorb such a tsunami in the future.
