    Default Historic Church Organ Recital

    St. John- St. Luke United Church of Christ is pleased to present an organ recital on Sunday, 14 Ocober 2012 at 3:00 PM. The church is located at 2120 Russell in Detroit across from Eastern Market [[South of Gratiot).

    The organ is a tracker [[all mechanical) pipe organ and still sounds great. The organ was manufactured by G. F. Votteler of Cleveland, Ohio and restored in 1983. It has served the church for over 130 years. It is one of few of this its in existence.

    The organist for the recital is Mr. Joseph Palazzollo, organist for Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church. He will be able to showcase the organ's beautiful flute stop and its other features. The program will feature the music of Bach the highlight of which will be a performance of the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. Music of Satie, Vierne, Mancini, Joplin, Sousa and local composers Gordon Young and Rene Becker will be performed on the Church's Chickering piano.

    In addition, two sopranos will each perform Mozart's "Alleluia from Exultante Jubilate and "Hear Ye, Israel from Mendelsohn's Elijah.

    Admission is free. Free Will offerings will be appreciated. Light refreshments will be available after the recital. Free secure parking is available.
