The feds are making them build the new police station. The city was cited under the Archer Administration. This has been long deferred.

Now normally I would agree. This shows you just how messed-up the city finances are. The City needs both well paid front line personnel and a new building. I have a sneaking suspicion that this building will have a lot of corners cut as well.

Detroit Planner, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the consent decree mandated a new police HQ. I know they were supposed to make improvements to holding cells and some other things, but I don't recall a new HQ being ordered.

The Police HQ was under construction before the FSA was a part of the equation.

313WX, I was talking about the consent decree that Detroit Planner referenced; the one that was entered into back in the 90s.

I think he meant under the Archer administration Detroit received a notice that the current police headquarters wasn't up to grade.

There was no "Consent Decree" to build a new one signed with anyone.

I'm not sure what he meant, so hopefully he can clarify.

I wasn't aware of any situation where the feds are making the City build a new DPD HQ, which is why I asked.

Every cut corner is an opportunity for corruption. And with the federal investigation, the prices for Detroit officials should be going up. In the meantime, the hand-chosen 'minority' front for the man will build a sub-standard building, then pay again later to fix things up -- until some weak justification becomes available as to why they can't fix the place anymore -- then the 'we deserve a new building' song -- and the cycle starts over. Spring again in bureaucracyland.
