I don't wish bad things on anyone, but it just goes to show the power[[s) that be can't stand ugliness.

If you put crap on others you disagree with out there [[his medical marijuana remarks are at the bottom of the totem pole quite frankly), it will always comes back to haunt you in one way or another. Maybe eventually he'll realize this.

But in any event, I hope he has a speedy recovery,

To hope that someone is in great pain for the rest of their life is especially cruel.

I hope Mr. Patterson has a speedy recovery.

So is blocking safe access to and denying medical patients a alternative kind of medicine that improves the quality of their lives. I'm sure it's a noble crusade though.

Actually, it' not the same. Mr. Patterson has not stated that he hopes anyone is in pain for the rest of their life. The DY member, on the other hand, has stated that very thing. Big difference.

From today's Free Press: L. Brooks Patterson's condition upgraded to stable
The county's top elected official is grateful to the people who've sent flowers, but he had a request -- no more, please, Mullan said.

"He's receiving too many [[and) he can't have them in his room" because of hospital rules, Mullan said. "If they want to show their support, he'd like them to send a donation" to the Brooksie Way Foundation, the nonprofit health-promotion group that Patterson founded in memory of his son, Brooks Stuart Patterson, who died in 2007. Tax-deductible donations can be sent to the foundation at Box 81576, Rochester 48308-1576.

I know what I said and I stand by it. He's a turd.

Why would they take the driver to Receiving?

  8. #33

    Default

Probably because of the specific severity of his injuries. The next stop could have been U of M Medial via helicopter. Both are well known for their trauma and specialized critical care work.

Probably a specialist based there for his specific injuries.

    Got it.

Ironic that there was something better in Detroit then, eh?

Godspeed for L Brooks Patterson. Let the Lord heal his body.

Receiving is one of the best trauma hospitals in Michigan, as I learned after being a cyclist hit by an SUV that ran a red light at 40 miles per hour in Garden City. They deal with anything and everything down there, so if you need immediate trauma care, hope to whatever forces, laws, or deities that drive this Universe that you wind up there or at U of M. A cyclist or pedestrian hit by a car at 40 mph has a 15 percent chance of even surviving the accident, and I made a full recovery. Therefore, I'm quite happy to vouch for Receiving.

As for Brooks, I vehemently disagree with his politics, but I hope he makes a speedy and full recovery. I'd take his decision to do so at home with his family and none of the authority of the office of Oakland County executive as a massive bonus. Being in an accident with severe injuries completely upends one's life, and that's not something I'd wish on anyone.

    To lighten the mood...

I guess we can say LBP's new Oakland County traffic lights are a smashing success!

Interesting story Xequar. Glad to hear your recovered so well.

To further your point about Recieving, and among its other reputations, I recall it being famous as the authority for the treatment of shot gun wounds about which medical personal worldwide have come to learn.

Very well put; my feelings exactly. For me politics stop at the hospital and funeral home door.

I 2nd xequar's post. Receiving is very good at emergency and trauma.

Those types of lights have been popping up in my area for the last year, I find them a bit confusing. Still not that hard to figure out after the first few times.
Sounds like the State Cop driver is in bad shape.

If you're saying UM is a step up from Receiving, I beg to differ. Unless it was something UM specifically specializes in, such as burns, then Receiving is a good as it gets. If it wasn't in Receiving's wheelhouse, then they would have just gone straight to UM.

I will second what xequar said. They are the best. They saved my life once, so I speak from experience.

FWIW, all of the region's [[or Michigan's for that matter) intensive care units and specialty doctors are centralized in Detroit, with the exception of the William Beaumont and U of M hospitals. Even with Beaumont hospitals, I'm not sure there as highly recognized as Henry Ford, St. John or the DMC. U of M is mostly known for its specialization in Cancer and Heart treatment.

There are people all of the time from Flint or Toledo who come all the way to the DMC for treatment.

So based on that you think he is one of the people who disagrees with you on a piece of legislation, you wish him great harm. Then you have the nerve to call such malice "karma" which is an actual religious belief.

I can't find anything about him and the medical marijuana fiasco. Whats more, if you knew anything about the law, you'd know that even many of the ardent supporters of decriminalization call it a terrible piece of legislation. We wouldn't be having such a mess with it right now if it were better articulated. It's so vague that it allows creeps like Bill Schuette to go after patients because there are so many loopholes.

Yet based on an "I think he said something one time..." you're willing to wish him great harm. A real class act, you are.

I'm one of his most ardent detractors [[as many of my posts reference him as everything that is wrong with this region) but I hope he gets well soon. This is a democracy. We're supposed to disagree with each other, without wishes or threats of death or violence.

Patterson, drivers in crash weren't wearing seat belts, police say

Pontiac— Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, his driver and the motorist driving a car involved in a crash on Friday weren't wearing seat belts, police said Monday...

I learned a couple of things about this today:

    1) No one was wearing seat belts - will LBP and his driver get tickets? In the other car?
    2) I saw more pics of the car, it had BOSCH stickers on it like it was a demonstrator vehicle - clean diesel, etc. So it's possible this car is owned by Bosch, and may have been driven by Bosch employees, some of which are foreign nationals. The pics on Channel 4 site seem almost to be intentionally blurry so as to hide the Bosch logo. What did they use, some ancient 1 Meg camera?

This incident certainly has some twists and turns in it, will be interesting to see how it evolves.

Since it was four-out-of-four, the fines should be quadrupled to make examples of these folks.

I knew Brooks wasn't wearing a seatbelt due the nature of his injuries...but damn, the professional driver wasn't wearing one, either. I know he's hurt badly, but it is another reason why he and his family should be EMBARASSED, not upset at his critics.

Clean Diesel demo car...I'm guessing it didn't have the same acceleration of the driver's usual vehicle...but they probably knew that intersection. Now that I know they weren't wearing seatbelts either, I take back my previous comments on them not getting a ticket for this crash. Now I want everyone to get tickets.

    Especially L. Brooks.

No, I was just saying in terms of specific treatment, like you said. Not a comparison.

No seat belts renders you to ping pong ball within an impacted vehicle or worse a human projectile landing outside of it. Unwise.

I always wear a belt, even if I am in the back seat.

I'm sure L. can say he learned at least one thing during this accident.

I'm wondering when, in the midst of his trajectory between seat and dashboard, he regretted not putting on that belt.

One air bag met another, and the human one lost.

Anyone who has paid a seatbelt fine in Oakland County in the last year should receive a rebate and it should be paid by Mr. Brooks.
