Are you saying the Sheriff's Office is corrupt? The County Admin can be corrupt without the Sheriff's being corrupt. In what ways is WCSO corrupt?

Besides, Allen Park has already asked Dearborn to provide police services...and Lincoln Park and Taylor and the rest of the surrounding cities. None of them seem interested.

We're told Allen Park has already sent a letter to neighboring cities in Wayne County asking if they would provide police and fire services. So far, no city that is already doing more with less has taken Allen Park up on its offer.
Dearborn can't police Allen Park without sacrificing patrols and response times in Dearborn. And that will probably anger the people of Dearborn.

If they were to contract neighboring Police to patrol wouldn't it get confusing if there were differences in city ordinance?

Yes it would, but you couldn't rely completely on the department you contracted with. It would have to expand to fill the extra work.

Here's the catch. When the city of Chelan contracted with Chelan County [[both in Washington) for police services, the exsisting officers were absorbed into the county sheriff's department. Their salary's in turn were paid for in the contract. Where the savings came from was other expenses, dispatch, vheicle maintenance and the like. It's not as cheap as it sounds. Down here in Rock Island, we're paying about $85k a year, but don't have a 24 hour police presence.

If you need for instance one police officer per one hundred residents ,if you combine you still need the same amount of officers.

Unless of course you are using combining to remove the legacy costs .

in the case of police, savings from a shared department are primarily in the overhead of running the department--things like the command staff, the administrative staff, dispatch, and holding areas. Over time, you also might save by combining the communications systems. You aren't likely to save much on patrol officers unless you have a very small department where you have to staff up above what you normally need in order to handle absences or minimum staffing requirements on your night shift.
