Thank you, thank you, thank you for these photos. It's very nice to be able to see a full size rendering of that older photo of the buildings. All I've had for years was a small blurry copy.

My father worked in that building [[post-"remuddling") for about 40 years. He was long unhappy with what had been done to the old FTD/1000 Farmer building at the corner, a process he wasn't involved in. The "remuddling" was completed in 1970 and was designed by the Birmingham architects Begrow & Brown.

When the firm acquired the Pochelon Building next door several years later though, he had a say and made sure they preserved as much of the remaining exterior details as possible, including the gargoyles.

The basement still contained some stuff from Pochelon's L. Bemb flower company [[named for his mother, who started the business) and the early years of FTD, as well as some signage from the famous [[or infamous, depending on one's views) Frame's tea shop that once occupied the ground floor of 1000 Framer. Most of that stuff was given to FTD.

My family had some old friends who'd been involved in the florist business and had known Al Pochelon. He was a rather interesting old Detroit character.
