Two of the leading authorities on large scale Garage design in United States were based in Detroit. One architect is obvious, Albert Kahn. The other architect is somewhat surprising, Robert O. Derrick. In one of the oddest pairings I have come across in my research Kahn and Derrick would team up to design the building below.

Designed by Albert Kahn, Robert O. Derrick associate. First National Garage Annex, 609 Bates built 1927-1928 Historic Financial District, Detroit, MI. Includes an article/photograph featuring the building from a 1927 edition of the Detroit Free Press.

    Construction supervision: Arthur V. Moninger
Advisors on the expansion of the banking operations: Halsey, McCormack & Helmer, bank engineers of New York City
The building was a twenty story combination of garage/offices.

Just read about this Detroit Landmarks video in today's Daily Tribune. First I've heard of it....covers five historic houses of worship around metro Detroit...and includes drone shots. Nice!!

Very nice... really enjoyed that! Almost expected Shrine of the Little Flower to be added to that video.

What church is the first photo? I know the second photo is Our Lady of Help as my parents were married there in 1948 and myself and siblings were baptized there as well. It was demolished in 1968.

The photo is of the church shortly after it was first built in 1866-1867. Over the years the building was altered.

As much as I love old buildings, I have always found the Women's City Club to be quite unattractive. It just doesn't work for me for some reason.
