Albert Kahn's 1927 design at 1100 Lakeshore Road. The grounds were open to the public today and I finally got a chance to wander around and take a few images.

I’d have to say out of all the extant homes in GP, the massive Tudor edifice on McKinley and Grosse Pointe Boulevard is my favorite. It’s the residence on the southwest side and was just on the market…may still be on the market. It was designed by Chittenden and Kotting in 1912-ish and the only reason I know that is because I came across a rare ad for windows or plumbing from an architectural magazine from around that time.

Thx for the info Patrick I have been trying to find out the background on the home for awhile. My grandparents made an offer on the home when it was for sale in the late 40's. If you have a copy of the ad could you send it along on here? Do you remember which publication it was featured in?

I'll look for the ad...it was in one of those architectural magazines from Google Books. The house itself is amazing...too bad they can't build anything like that today.

I just happened to intentionally drive by 43 McKinley Place today. A couple images for Patrick. I have found a 1905 build date for the home.

He may not be a Detroiter, but he is an internationally known architect, Marcel Breuer. One of his few designs in Michigan.
