In between its use by the churches, this building was owned by the Detroit Board of Education and named the Adlai E. Stevenson Building. It was used for educational programs, public meetings, administrative functions, and rented out for various civic occasions. Prophet Jones' lavish funeral was held there in 1971. I gave a speech there when I was in 7th grade as part of a series of events for the then new magnet schools.
