I've got two important questions:
1. When did Topinka's on the Boulevard do business?
2. What were the top restaurants in Detroit in 1940?
I have a 90 yr old mother-in-law who is trying to remember where she went for her senior prom in 1940.

Here is a link to some Gone Buy Not Forgotton restaurants that was discussed on DetroitYes back in 2006, maybe it can help.

Incidentally, welcome to DetroitYes.
Topinka's was around early enough that Walter Briggs had his own little cubbyhole there, that would've proceeded the years he was in a wheelchair.
From the 1958 Yellow Pages:
Topinka's
Lunches-Smorgasbord Dinners-Late Suppers-Catering-Liquor
Private Rooms For Banquets 10am-2am-Open Sunday
2960 W Gd Blvd TR 5-2614
Not mentioned on the previous thread of long gone Detroit restaurants is the grand-daddy of all Italian restaurants in Detroit on either Cass or Second....can't remember the name...
