Congratulations to the University of Detroit Titans basketball team and head coach Ray McCallum. They defeated Valparaiso tonight to win the Horizon League championship and earn their first trip to the NCAA tournament since 1999.

McCallum Jr is a big time player U of D is lucky to have him.
Go Titans! were the just the University of Detroit Titans because they showed Valpo no Mercy? sorry, it's late
Ah, it warms the old Professor's heart to see his dear old Titans going to the dance. He and an old friend [[for whom your kindly old Prof will be best man at a wedding later in the year, first in decades) tore up Chicago for the festivities the second-to-last time around. Went drinking with a nun. [[Amazing place, Dear Old U of D)
Hopefully we will place into a bracket such that your Prof and his colleagues don't have to travel too far. We get rusty with age. Still, let the old banners unfurl, and recall the victory song of old:
For old U of D, dear old U of D, march along to victory!
Can't you hear those thousands cheering,
as the goal our men are nearing?
For old U of D, dear old U of D, true to you we'll ever be,
So Fight! Fight! Fight! for the glorious red and white,
Dear old U of D!!
Of course, that was plainly a football song [["goal our men are nearing" in a basketball game? One should hope!!) so was replaced post-merger by now-Chemistry prof Matt Mio and a friend by the current version, which is remarkable for a fight song, having been written so recently but sounding like a proper post-great-War type of ditty.
Ah, well, memories. Anyway, last time I think we got tossed out of Goose Island Brewpub; we are all a good bit older now but hopefully in whatever venue toward which we now venture there is some public house worthy of our being forever banned.
Fight on!!
Cheers,
Prof. Scott
Really happy for my U of D Titans. After a rough start to the season, they got hot at just the right time. And they earned that trip to the Big Dance, beating the top two teams in the conference to get there.
Made this Class of 89 grad pretty happy.
Great game by U of D [[and tournament and season). Halfway through the season it didn't look like they had a chance. Sure doesn't seem like that last appearance was 13 years ago! Would be great to see them win a game or two in the NCAAs. You know Dicky V is happy for them!
this 2-time UDM grad has been waiting for this for quite a while...
