You can usually always get cheap tickets to Vegas. And it should be much warmer there.
You can get some great bargains at Niagara Falls Ontario offseason. Whirlpool Suite/Dinner, Skylon Tower, a couple of museums, casino pkg., etc.
Other than that I would drive to Toronto or Chicago. Bid really low for a downtown core Hotel on Priceline or select 4 star Hotwire.
Thnks guys
If you've never done Toledo you may be surprised. The Art Museum is world class. Other things to do include the Zoo, the Maumee State Park [[with Hotel right on Lake Erie), shopping at the Erie Street Markets [[including a Libbey Glass outlet store). Less than an hour from most of the metro by car!
Some ideas:
Fly to DC Friday evening, come back Sunday. May be able to get a good airfare online. Driving is 8-9 hours at best.
What about Hershey PA? Wife probably likes chocolate, shouldn't be too busy.
Dayton W-P USAF museum is very nice and free.
Closer to home - Frankenmuth & Birch Run
Mt Pleasant Casino
Take the train to TO, parking is a hassle. Or fly Porter Air they have good prices from WIndsor, even to NY and other places.
On Christmas Day I took the MegaBus to Chicago [[$11.00 each way). The train is fun too. I booked a $450.00/night room online at the Drake Hotel [[overlooking Lake Michigan on the Miracle Mile) for $99.00/night. All guests received a key to a hospitality room on each floor where there was a bar and refreshments and jazz with an absolutely beautiful view of the lake. They had High Tea every afternoon in the tea room overlooking the most beautiful lobby I have ever seen. I highly recommend Chicago, however, if you plan to be outside bundle up because they don't call Chicago the Windy City for nothing....PS...I parked at MGM Grand...Free

I was just in Chattanooga and was pleasantly surprised. Very nice place for a short getaway. A little far to drive for a long weekend, but Delta often has deals to fly there. Lots of indoor and outdoor stuff to do, and it's just a short distance to some interesting Civil War historical sites. Great freshwater aquarium. The Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel is a restored train station, and you can even stay in a converted train car. Thirty years ago, Chattanooga was a dump. Today, it's a very nice city. Makes me hopeful for Detroit.
What are you into ??
Grand Rapids , Cinci , Columbus , Cleveland all have plenty of winter activities , even Toledo , Ann Arbor & Lansing can be great for a quick getaway ......
Port Huron & Marysville - Chilly Fest this weekend; Port Huron Museum; Thomas Edison Museum; Wills Ste Claire Museum. Stay at the Edison Inn or St. Clair Inn.
Frankenmuth - Snow Fest this weekend. A fun and relaxing time can always be had in this town!
Grand Rapids - Gerald Ford Museum, Grand Rapids Museum of Art, Meijer Gardens, Meyer Mey House [[Frank Lloyd Wright designed), The Amway Grand, great music scene.
Are planning on going on vacation in drag? Maybe there's a drag festival around that time. You could take Bunny Peters with you.
