I don't think that it's a white vs. black thing, necessarily. I'm more willing to see it as a rich vs. poor thing. Wealthy people tend to have the resources to pay for their own private security. And consequently, they are less likely to experience violent crime.

People living in midtown/downtown tend to be in areas that provide their own security:

- Near WSU, where there is a dedicated police force
- Casinos, that have its own security
- Hotels, own security
- Sporting events, own security
- Paid Parking lots, own security
- Newly constructed lofts, own security
- Grand Circus Park apartment complexes, own security
- Campus Martius, own security
- Michigan Ave. restaurants in Corktown, own security

I've been living downtown for 3 years and have yet to know anyone personally who was a victim of violent crime, nor have have I witnessed one myself.

But I wouldn't say it's because I'm white. [[Especially, cuz I'm not.) It's because the places I tend to be and go generally have their own private security to augment DPD.
