Why the aversion to structure moving? It can't be anymore expensive than demo costs, land fill fees and new construction in 2009 dollars. What is a white elephant at one location could be a masterstroke in another. For example, I always thought that the GAR would make a great school, with sympathetic additions of course. But at its current location, its options are very limited.

There are a lot of websites with photos of all kinds of structures being moved. Since the Gem Theater move, you'd think people would be more receptive to it. Here's one example

PS: I'm still mad about the Chene House. Didn't that experience teach us anything? How about stringent preservation laws, to start? Detroit would have great, intact neighborhoods for just about any modern time period; great for movies!
