Thank you, Zacha, but that's "reporting," and I still have no evidence of the police asking the question.
Let's examine this pairing of statement with interrogative.
"Police are stumped. Why was Groat walking three blocks from the casino?"
The source of the report has stated that the police are stumped.
While, probably, we can believe that statement to be true, the source of the report has followed the statement with a question which may, or may not, have been asked by the cops.
By following the statement with that question, the source of the report has conjured up the implication that it is the police who were scratching their heads over that one when, in fact, the reader has no just cause for believing any such thing.
The cops, I am certain, can think of several reasons why the victim was where he was. They may wish to know, for sure, why, but I truly doubt that they said anything about being "stumped" by that part of the incident.
Reporters, these days, are a stupid, half-literate, and sneaky lot; it's best to not infer something just because they implied it.
Well, I figure that By RON SAVAGE
WJBK | myFOXDetroit.com didn't obtain any further info that was sensational or scandalous, and that brought the curtain down on any following-up of anything.
Here .... daily updates http://www.crimemapping.com/
I know. I live downtown [[for a year now). See my post #34 above. I still question the accuracy though.I'd say that my perception is that it's probably true. Downtown Detroit is a pretty insulated area. The people that live in it and work in it generally have money. I know it's hard to believe, and you might not understand unless you actually live here for a few weeks. But downtown is very much like a small town. You can generally tell when someone or something looks out of place.

Ah, yes. Living off of Capitol Park.
So I'll save the details of one of my most ridiculous nights in Detroit, but it started at D'Mongos and ended with bringing a birthday cake plus a few friends into The Grind, which was then known as the Cobra Lounge.
But it should be noted that that place is shady as hell and has some marginal characters frequenting the place, that's for sure. I bet that place will get shut down as soon as Capitol Park gets a re-developer. They're guilty of plenty of violations in their current state, but it's gone ignored for so long because the area they're in used to be pretty vacant. Not so true anymore....
From the Herald article, this had nothing to do with the casino at all. He did not wander off by himself. The police are not stumped. Groat and his friend were attacked and while Groat fought with the attackers the friend ran to get the car.
Great reporting Ron Savage.
Finally, actual reporting on what happened that night. Maybe Fox 2 could take some lessons.
It sounds like it had reached the point where Groat had no opportunity to diffuse the situation and get in his car. His friend is lucky he made it out alive. Seems like there are enough leads that these guys should be caught.
Yea, good luck with that. I'll believe it when it's reported. Detroit is a jungle. I got out in 87'.....I'm alive today because if that. The cops are corrupt and the punks rule the street. Good place to declare martial law. Sorry, people, that's the truth.I lived it.
Sigh..... well this was not a random act.... but the result of some bad actions... I wonder if Alcohol was involved? As Gnome said... nothing at all to do with MGM Casino... I think Fox News owes MGM Grand a retraction and apology.
It's very sad that this had to happen... the victim had children. But I'm sorry... when you're partying at 4AM... and you get into a fight... [[aren't there ways to avoid that??) ... oh never mind....
I'm reminded of that one BAMN [[By Any Means Necessary) guy a few years back at a party, hitting on the wrong persons girlfriend... he too was stabbed to death.
It's just a sad situation. Does it make downtown less safe?.... depending on your actions....
That's right. Put it on the victim.
The newspaper article seems to move the story forward, but we still don't know so much of what happened. I'd like to know more about the victim becoming separated from his friends and getting involved in a fight with three men in a stairwell.

"had to happen"?
WTF.
I still remember the story of the kid that got shot during the SuperBowl parties. Let's face it. In some effed up parts of society "they" would rather live with a worthless POS that kills somebody that "dis-respects".
IOW, just like that SuperBowl murder there are people who know who did this. But until moral leadership takes charge, forget about it.
Doubt very heavily this guy was the problem, he didn't pull the knife. The shitheads did. Don't defend them. Or make excuses for slime like them. Find them. And who really would sweat if they got iced.
Read more than just the 3 words you picked.... otherwise you're just wasting your time arguing about things taken out of context..."had to happen"?

Well this story completely changed from roaming the casino to picking a fight at a bar. I am under the personal belief and again this is my opinion, that nothing good happens when you're out after 1 am so I don't tend to go out all night. I feel the worst time is around 2 am when all the bars close and thats when you get the fights and the crazy stuff happening. Yes, its your right to stay out 24 hours a day but just prepared.
I drove and stopped my car right at the Grand River and Bagley intersection and from that vantage I was surprised at how close it is Washington Blvd where there is a bit more 'walkability' in terms of downtown. I'd originally thought that intersection was further away from downtown along GR ave. Still I don't get the report saying he was heading north on Grand River? How is that known...?
Sorry but I am taking it that in some circles, the worthless scum that knifed this guy are excused for.
I doubt very much he brought it on himself.
He DID have the opportunity to walk/run away even though he'd been hit with a beer bottle, but instead he chose to fight. His friend said they were only 60 yards from the car.
Yes it is very sad indeed... no I hope the "scum" that you are referring to gets caught, and hopefully gets prosecuted as an adult.... and gets locked up forever...
My comments should have said "too bad this happened" instead of "this had to happened"...
But I am in no way sympathetic to the vermin that did this...
