    I was not on this forum when the thread was active.

    My father was hired in the 1930s, got blackballed for being a union sympathizer, got fired, got re-hired after the union [[UAW local 600) got in, received a cash settlement, and retired in 1969.

    He has been deceased for many years but told stories about the 'battle of the overpass'.

    I do have a photo of him at a luncheon for presumably his 25th anniversary with Fords. He also received a watch.

    That watch was customary with all the Big 3 auto workers after they got 30 years in. My father retired from Chrysler, [[may God rest his soul) and he got one in 1979. They don't do that anymore for some reason.

    My grandfather worked at the Highland Park plant for a little while in the '20's but was fired because he drove a Studebaker and refused to drive a Ford. My uncle worked at the plant at 9 and Mound from when Ford first started leasing it from the Federal government, right after Hudson vacated the plant till about 1952. My father started at the same plant about 1953, moved with Ford out to Sterling Hts and then retired in 1978.
